Rush running for president would be so American Idol, it might be quite fun to watch :)

It might actually make the American people decide to change the electoral system for something that works - that would be a result.

:secret: it does work.

It does? So, does that mean that this time around the best man for the job got elected?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It won't ever happen.

Sarah Palin won't happen either.

Quit killing my dreams :P

Sarah Palin? Puhleez.

The GOP is gonna need some years to reinvigorate and become a meaningful party again. It's going to have to reach out to minorities, Hispanics, youth demographics, and get beyond the south/west/south-western states it's now regionally confined to. The change within the party is going to come not from Congressional leaders. Boehner and McConnell's lack of political sensitivity to anything beyond the radical conservative base has doomed them as has-beens in deciding the party's future.

I predict Bobby Jindal as the ultimate GOP presidential candidate in 2012, after competing against other sharp, smart, pragmatic governors (Tim Pawlenty comes to mind) in the primary cycle . Having a Jindal/Obama faceoff in '12 will make for a very interesting election cycle.

I expect they'll have some sort of youthful dynamic figure with new ideas rather than a dinosaur like McCain.

I don't know why that stuff is important to so many people.

To me, it's all important. I want to know what you did right and what you did wrong. Unfortunately, when the latter is presented it's derided as "dirty campaigning". It's not. It's just campaigning.

Its all b*llsh!t.

For me, it was a matter of credibility. Kerry was the candidate saying that we shouldn't have been in that war, and Bush was trying to justify it. Bush kept going on about how he was the one qualified to be commander in chief. It would have been a well scripted spot to make that comment. Would it have been dirty? Yeah, probably, but it's the truth none the less. Would it have been memorable? Yes, but then again, so was Perot's running mates line to Quayle, and that did no good in the polls. It was a moment for Kerry to stand up and show that he had a spine. To demonstrate that he wasn't a #####, and was capable of standing up to people. Bah, thats the past, and Kerry has long since proved what he is made of.

Gingrich 2012

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012,” Gingrich said Wednesday during a speech at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri, the local television station KY3 reported.

Gingrich thrashed Republicans for allowing increased spending during the Bush administration and for not doing enough to block President Barack Obama’s early initiatives.

“Remember, everything Obama's doing, Bush started last year,” Gingrich said. “If you're going to talk about big spending, the mistakes of the Bush administration last year are fully as bad as the mistakes of Obama's first two, three months.”

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Make no mistake, Jindal is very deep in the pocket of the religious right. The man believes in spiritual healing and speaking in tongues FFS. Pawlenty is neither sharp nor pragmatic.

Better than the British system, where the Prime Minister doesn't get elected at all.

Bah, thats the past, and Kerry has long since proved what he is made of.

If he's remembered at all it will be as the guy who lost to Bush by basing his entire campaign on his 4 month tour in Vietnam which nobody cared about. It didn't help McCain either. The vet vote drops every year and fewer people have a clue about the military.

To address the original question:

I never felt unsafe... even living in NYC thru & after the 9/11 attacks. And then living abroad in Africa after that.

What makes me feel scared though is that i just see everything going to #######: Our economy, our financial system, our healthcare system, our education system. And i am skeptical to believe that Congress & the White House & Big Business & the Free Market will pull us out of our own demise. Do they really know what's going on here in Babylon?

Sorry for the bummer post.

What I don't understand was that Kerry (for all his alleged character defects) came across far better than Bush in the '04 debates.

I just can't see Bush as anything other than a paper tiger who was stage managed from start to finish without having any actual, natural talent.

:secret: Kerry was his own worst enemy: He never learned to end his comments on a memorable note. As a matter of fact, he never learned to stop commenting...

Kerry and GWB took an oath to with that skull thing to protect and to aid each other, that entire election was a farce.

To feel safe after 9/11, stocked up on ammo and cleaned the cobwebs out of my guns.

Did you even pay attention to his campaign? It wasn't Kerry who made any mention of his military career. It was Bush, errr Rove's attack squad, Swiftboat Vets who made the claims about his military career, who by the way, none of them served with Kerry, or were even stationed near him. It was a classic hit job with no factual basis. One of the cornerstones of Rove.

But I do agree that he will be known as the man who lost to Bush primarily.

Were you in this country during 2004? Kerry's entire campaign had the following memorable moments:

-One of Kerry's crewmembers actively campaigned against him. He was on the boat. Most of his unit opposed him because of his anti-war activities later on.

-Kerry went to Vietnam in 1968 but Bush didn't (nevermind almost no one was going TO Vietnam while Nixon was pulling troops out)

-Kerry opening words at the DNC with a stupid salute- "I'm John Kerry and I'm reporting for duty".

-The Swift Boat going around Boston Harbor.

-Kerry throwing his ribbons away as the anti-hero in 1971 and keeping the medals calling himself a hero in 2004.

-The fake documents on Bush from 1972 with Microsoft font.

-Kerry's 1971 speech and his phony "Winter Soldiers" Congressional hearing (some never served in Vietnam) used by the North Vietnamese as propaganda.

-Kerry claiming he was going to rebut the Swift Boaters and never did.

-He was booed at his own convention for wanting to increase the size of the military.

Lastly, Kerry never had another issue and there wouldn't have been a Swift Boat group if Kerry hadn't made it his sole issue. Can you recall any other major issue in Kerry's campaign?
