Well the election of GWB showed that even a no-talent assclown can get elected with the right people behind him to manage his campaign.

That coupled with the fact that the Dems ran virtual stiffs against him. Say what you want about dubya's intelligence and grasp of reality, the man was a character. You could always count on him to give you a sound bite.

What I don't understand was that Kerry (for all his alleged character defects) came across far better than Bush in the '04 debates.

I just can't see Bush as anything other than a paper tiger who was stage managed from start to finish without having any actual, natural talent.

Rush running for president would be so American Idol, it might be quite fun to watch :)

It might actually make the American people decide to change the electoral system for something that works - that would be a result.

:secret: it does work.

:secret: Kerry was his own worst enemy: He never learned to end his comments on a memorable note. As a matter of fact, he never learned to stop commenting...

So, that is why Obama won. In the battle of the stiffs, he lost.

As I said - Obama is more what people expect from a career politician, no better or worse than many others.

Its Bush who was sub-par.

Bush didn't either though - he stammered through the entire show. More than that he had obvious been primed to use certain key words, but lacked the finesse to integrate them into a commentary.

Kerry is a pu$$y, plain and simple. He didn't want to engage Bush in any sort of character issue, while he himself was being assailed for them. FFS, Bush gets his daddy to get him into the Arkansas National Guard, and doesn't even show up for his assignment versus Kerry who did go to war, and was awarded a purple heart. HE doesn't have the balls to say "At least I had the courage to show up". He is a total chicken$hit and I can never take the man seriously. As to Al Gore..... two words that sunk that ship (no, its not Bill Clinton)....... Lock Box

Possibly. I find smear campaigns a real turn off to be honest.

I don't know why that stuff is important to so many people.

To me, it's all important. I want to know what you did right and what you did wrong. Unfortunately, when the latter is presented it's derided as "dirty campaigning". It's not. It's just campaigning.

Its all b*llsh!t.

I disagree but that's ok.

It won't ever happen.

Sarah Palin won't happen either.

Quit killing my dreams :P

Sarah Palin? Puhleez.

The GOP is gonna need some years to reinvigorate and become a meaningful party again. It's going to have to reach out to minorities, Hispanics, youth demographics, and get beyond the south/west/south-western states it's now regionally confined to. The change within the party is going to come not from Congressional leaders. Boehner and McConnell's lack of political sensitivity to anything beyond the radical conservative base has doomed them as has-beens in deciding the party's future.

I predict Bobby Jindal as the ultimate GOP presidential candidate in 2012, after competing against other sharp, smart, pragmatic governors (Tim Pawlenty comes to mind) in the primary cycle . Having a Jindal/Obama faceoff in '12 will make for a very interesting election cycle.
