Are you scared yet, America?

WASHINGTON -- If 100 days of Barack Obama haven't been enough to make you pine for the good old George W. Bush era already, you might want to watch a new Web video produced by House Republican leader John Boehner and the House Intelligence Committee's top Republican, Pete Hoekstra. Because they clearly think the country was better off last year.

"What are Democrats doing to keep America safe?" the video asks -- over a soundtrack of eerie screeches, ominous strings and soundbites from GOP critics and TV pundits who say, basically, that the terrorists are going to kill us all.

The final 17 seconds are a true tour de force of the politics of fear: quick cuts of still photos including Obama greeting Saudi King Abdullah, shaking hands with Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez, giving a speech, standing with Vice President Joe Biden and sitting in a Cabinet meeting. Oh, and also, a few still shots of masked jihadis carrying rocket launchers, a bomb exploding, protesters stomping on a burning American flag and the exterior of the Pentagon on 9/11 are thrown in -- you know, just in case the video was too subtle.

An aide to Boehner told Salon the GOP leader's office thought the video raised "fair questions" and that it wasn't at all over the top. To borrow a slogan someone else is already using, we report, you decide. Watch the video here, and see what you think:

I'm thinking with skills like that, either Hollywood, FOX, or the Republicans are gonna snatch this guy up,

It IS a nicely done video, with the music and quick editing.

And I do feel much safer now, in spite of the obvious transparent desires of the video editors to sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt. I know they and their kind want our president and the elected Congress to fail, but it makes me feel safer that they're in the minority. Still, I don't feel safe enough to become complacent, because there's an ever-present danger that they could come back to power.

I mean, outside of the military and 9/11, how many of us know people (IN THE USA) that were killed by terrorists (IN THE USA)?

Much more likely that I'll get hit by a car, shot by some rookie cop, or just die of old age.

TERBINladen is a racial slur. I'm not saying that he is innocent of anything, nor deserving of any respect whatsoever, but for the FBI to

place the URL as TERBINladen, is disrespectful to millions of people. I have no problem, but perhaps you have one with reading or understanding

what a racial slur is. If they were after an insult to him only, they could have said EVILaden, or SATANLaden, or anything of the sorts.

Less than 30 guys come here legally, take flying lessons for airliner type planes, but don't want to know how to land the the darn things, reported by the airline school to the FBI, FBI tells the CIA, CIA doesn't listen.

So why did they come here? Somebody teed them off, wasn't you or me, we were too busy working and trying to pay our taxes. Could be some leader in our government, could even be Hollywood portraying a fictitious sex and murder type of America or that terrible music jamming our airways. Certainly making us look like sinners that deserve to die.

Do I feel safer when have some idiot looking through my underwear when those that meet the profile walk through because the ACLU is protecting them? Or with Homeland Security, have a cop sitting behind every bush waiting to give me a speeding ticket for doing 26 mph in a 25 zone? Or spending billions of dollars fencing in our airports when a simple buy anywhere bolt cutter is all that is needed to get in? Or they are torturing guys that weren't doing anything bad enough to get shot at on the spot? Or that the terrorist are so stupid they will attempt to enter this country via the airlines when we have thousands of miles of unprotected borders?

Or my bank wouldn't let me open a 500 buck checking account with my wife's name on it due to the APA until she got her green card. Or that for the first time in history we actually invaded a country based on completely false evidence. And even against the wishes of countries that are considered our allies? And an administration that is making new enemies constantly for our country?

Would rather take my chances than to be locked up in a padded cell, and that is exactly what the previous administration was doing to us. But they certainly feared for their own lives.

I was never scared in the first place... I refuse to let the media tell me how "safe" or "unsafe" it is out there.. they are fear mongers, and as it's been said already chances are better that I'll die of choking before I'll die of terrorism or *gasp the pig flu.. gimme a break.
