Hello Fellow Vjers,

I would just like to ask if it's okey to renew my Philippine Passport that will expire in December 2009?

The reason why i wanted to do this earlier is because i will be removing my condition In July and I want my extension to be stamped in my new passport then .If I will have the stamp in around Sept. or October then my passport will be valid for less than 6 months then(i know passport should be valid for 6 months).

Also I am planning to go home anytime my kids interview will be scheduled and you know it takes 8-12 weeks to renew passport (Washington DC).

Is it okey to renew even if it will expire in December? Thanks so much for those who will read and reply .

I renewed my old passport last Oct. 2008 even if it will expire on Sept of 2010. Well in my case i had to change my single name to married but they gave me an option to either just change the name on my old passport or renew the passport with my married name. I think it will be okay to renew your passport earlier before it expire.

Btw, when are you planning to go home for kids interview? If you will be home before your removing condition in July then have it renewed here in PI, i think it will only take a week or two to renew in Manila (not so sure coz it took me 21 days here in Davao since they have to make the passport in Manila).

I've renewed my passport one year before its expiration since I don't want to worry about it for the next 5 years.

If you're going to PI before your removing of condition, better renew it there. It's faster and costs less. I've filed my application in DFA Manila on Friday afternoon and picked up the new passport the following Tuesday. Good luck to your kids' interview and have a safe trip.

Never ever say never

Thanks guys. No I am not going home till a couple of months from now. I will renew my passport in Washington DC here since I have enough time to do it before removing my condition and before kid's interview.

Yes, you need to go to the nearest Philippine Consulate in your area as applications by mail are no longer accepted.Personal appearance is now required for data verification, finger-printing, and signature capture for the new MRP or machine readable passport.

the new law stating u have to appear is crazy. we live in Georgia so we have to go to washington DC to renew my husband's passport? it only cost $50 yet it will cost almost $1000 to fly both of us and hotel and stuff just to renew and then u can't get it right away because they have to send it off to philippines for printing. sobrang arte naman ng pilipinas. Here u can renew US passport by mail. does the phil govt think that people will get a fake philippine passport that's why u have to appear in person and can only be printed in the phil. man, if i really want a fake passport i would rather get a US one than phil one, wouldn't you?
