Thanks Visa Journey for answering my many and frequent questions up to this point!

I have another one for you all that will hopefully help others in the future as well. I read up ahead of time about some things I will need to produce eventually, and a Police Certificate is one of the items. I am in Florida currently, how can I obtain a Police Certificate from Canada?

Is there a way I can have them fax it or mail it to me? Or is this one of those things you have to go there for? I physically can't be there to get it at the moment, but my family certainly could help me out by going to the police station and pick-up provide any information they require if that is possible.

Is there a form I can fill out and send? It is to my understanding I don't require the fingerprint certificate for my CR1 application, is this correct?

Any help on how I can get this important document is greatly appreciated!

You must be present in Canada to get a simple name check. If you are outside Canada, you must submit a fingerprint based check

Here is information on how to get your fingerprint check done from the RCMP

Good luck

Hi,

The Winnipeg police used to do the Canada wide check for people with a remote request, but I don't know if they do anymore.

Alternately you could apply for one via the RCMP - but that will take longer (remotely) and I only see information on their website for the fingerprint version (ie: it looks like they won't do a simple name check if you do not show up in person - however you could always contact them and find out)

Depends where you are going in Canada - are you just going to pop up to Montreal for the interview or perhaps staying with family for a few days first?

Canada-wide name check

These can be obtained at your local police station or RCMP office. The name check only takes a week or two, sometimes they can be obtained on the spot. Prices for police checks vary from station to station. When requesting this service, inform the agent that you are seeking a Canada wide police check for immigration purposes.

Important: It should note that the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant’s name and date of birth

Note: If you obtain your police check from the RCMP please note that there is a difference between "Criminal Record Check" and "Canadian Police Certificate" the Canadian Police Certificate has been found to be accepted.

I plan on staying with some family in Montreal for the interview, and possibly visit some more family in Toronto as well.

The RCMP remote fingerprint service seems to take longer than 120 days, I don't think that will suit my situation, especially if I anticipate an interview in under 3 months.

Could I get the certificate from Montreal perhaps? Or would I absolutely HAVE to go to Toronto for it? I don't even have a record, this is so silly.

Edit:

Also, could my mother in Toronto perhaps go on my behalf?

No, your mother cannot go for you. If you do a name check in Canada you must be there in person.

If you are spending some time in Montreal then maybe you can do it there. Call the number in the links I sent you and ask them what to do

Good luck

You can also post this question in the Canada forum here at VJ if you like - you will get responses from people who have had the police check done in Toronto and Montreal

Thanks for the replies!

I found this thanks to Trailmix and your comment on the Winnipeg Police, would this work for me?

Also, any idea on how long this would take? Many thanks once again!
