How much is the taxi from YUL - Montreal airport to d/t Montreal?

Hi everyone!

I would really like to have everything prepared and not have any surprises when I go for my interview in Montreal.

My flight doesn't get into Montreal until midnight (but I used my Air Miles and saved a bunch of money), on the night before my interview - I figure I am not going to sleep much either. So while I know that there is a shuttle service to d/t, I don't want to wait around the airport to catch it. So if anyone has taken a taxi to near the consulate and can you let me know aproximately the cost. Yes, I did a Google search, and on Yahoo answers it stated around $ 40.00. Sounds about right, makes me glad I saved all those Air Miles and booked my hotel on Hotwire :)

Thanks in advance,

Janet

I took a taxi from the airport to a hotel close to the consulate and it was about 30 bucks.. but this was 4 years ago..

I would have taken the shuttle bus but I couldn't find it...

It's a fixed fare of $38 http://www.admtl.com/passager/acces_et_sta...Limousines.aspx

The shuttle is cheaper: http://www.admtl.com/passager/acces_et_sta...ement/home.aspx - you can also check with your hotel to see what they recommend, sometimes, they have "private" shuttles or vouchers...

Take the shuttle. It's cheaper, and they're just sitting outside the terminal waiting for unsuspecting victims....erm...passengers to take into the city.

Here is the link to your unwanted shuttle, lol http://www.admtl.com/passager/acces_et_sta...t/_aerobus.aspx

Lot cheaper and probably not that much slower than ur taxi!! The shuttle dropys u off at the train stattion, then u catch a FREE shuttle to msot downtown hotels. Not sure the hours that shuttle runs. It is cheaper to book a round trip!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I don't know where you're staying, but I know where the VIA rail station is! Our hotel was literally across the street. Its about a 15 minute walk to the consulate if you take your time and don't jaywalk

For tight budgets and ample time (it's actually not that long), you can take public transit.

1. From the airport take the (I believe it's) 202 (or is it the number 100???) direction west to Gare Dorval (Dorval tain station stop)....a very short ride, like 5 minutes....grab a transfer. You pay only once. It's right in front of where you get out of the Canadian side of the terminal on that same level....just go past the taxis and shuttle buses to where the pedestrians cross to the parking garages...do not cross into the garage. Ask someone if feeling lost. Autobus is French for bus. Metro is metro (subway in other words)....French/English is all the same. Easy peezy.

2. Then take the 211 bus/autobus (ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE HE/SHE IS DRIVING DIRECTION DOWNTOWN or you will end up wayyyyyy west on the island of Montreal in the middle of nowhere)...this ride to Lionel Groulx metro station is about 30 minutes or so....depending on traffic. Just show your transfer.

3. Then use the same transfer to get into the metro area (grab another transfer inside the terminal if needed to take another bus when you get outside again)...there are a few trains at this one and so check the map and/or talk to the attendant at the gate and ask which stop to get off downtown (if that is where you are going). The metro to the heart of downtown is McGill stop or Peel stop. I believe that is the green line (I forget, it's been a while).

The whole trip, if transfers go smoothly, will take just over an hour.

The shuttle will take about 40 minutes....and so you do the cash math. Hee, hee.

Cost for the bus/metro was $2.75 the last time I took it...it can't be too much more than that now.

Whee!

I've never been to Quebec, but I have been in a lot of airports. Most airports aren't too close to the city. I'd keep $60 or so in your wallet when riding to and from the airport. You might not need anywhere near that amount, but it's always better to have more money than what's needed versus less.

Whenever I went to Montreal (which was fairly often for work) I always took the shuttle. And if it wasn't there when I first stepped out the curb, it was there in a few minutes. They run back and forth pretty often.
