I got married for the first time over 20 yrs ago and swore I would never do it again...kept to it too until now....I would happily never be married again as long as we get to stay together....but immigration doesnt agree.....we have become obsessed with getting married for the last 3 years because we had to be in order for us to stay together.

Yeah, I swore I was never going to get married again either. I was only married for 7 years, not 20. But I would have been happy to just live with my fiance for the rest of our lives without having to go through the whole legalities.

But you ca't do that if you live on different sides of the ocean. So one girl who swore she'd never do it again, and one guy who never wanted marriage at all are going to tie the knot just to be together.

I think that in itself is probably as good a foundation for a strong relationship as anything: being willing to do something you never wanted to just to be together.

well I wasn't married for 20....married for 7 like you :lol: .... but it was 20 yrs ago....god I am old :wacko: I did have 2 proposals in between, I guess I just have never felt the 'need' to be married, and I have been accused of being afraid of committment blah blah blah...but it was never about that.

We get married in 3 weeks but have lived together for the past 3 years....I don't see how it will makes us any closer than we already are, but what it will do is not have us go thro the anguish of last year when we thought our family, home, would be separated cos we couldn't be married.

But still...getting married!!!...party on!!! :lol::lol::dance:

I come from a background which doesn't believe in divorce (that it's an offence which would probably alienate both of us from our respective families, churches, etc.), and so does he. First and only marriage for both of us.

First (and let's hope only! :lol:) marriage for me! :D

Ditto ;)

First marriage for both of us. I don't believe in staying married if it's not working out though. I don't put a lot of stock in the institution of marriage (maybe I'm the only VJer who feels this way) though my own parents have been happily married for 25 years. I probably would never get married for any reason other than a)having kids or b)my partner just so happens to be from a different country...

I agree that if two people find themselves in a bad situation, there's no reason to "beat a dead horse" and force the marriage to stay together, if it's deteriorating. If my fiance' were American (or foreign but living here already when we met) we probably wouldn't be getting married RIGHT NOW, but maybe a year from now instead. We just decided that enough is enough with the long distance relationship and it's time to "take the plunge" :thumbs: We can't wait another year! time has come to be together! :yes:

Me = never married

Sian = never married

I swore I'd never get married. So did Sian. You see where that got us. LOL

So.....who's the oldest never-married person here? I'm 38. Anyone older than that? I'm sure there's gotta be.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

....

Sujeet also decided he didn't want to get married, years before I met him. For good reasons like wanting to be able to help poor people in the future and not wanting to have a wife who will be miserable because of it incase she doesn't feel the same(of course in India he would have been arranged had he decided early on that he would marry). That's a scary thought...it's like it was planned for Sujeet to NOT want to get married so that he wouldn't be arranged before meeting me. I on the other hand did always look forward to finding the person I would eventually marry. Early on after meeting, I thought "Darn it, he is so great but he says he doesn't want to get married ever!". :(

Well, what can I say :blush: ...after talking awhile and falling in love, he said he DID want to get married. :lol::P

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I wanted to make 1 poll with marriage and divorce but it's only allowed 3 questions and these are my first polls, forgive any mistake.

I'll start, I never got married :star:

First marriage and hopefully the onlly.......unless some cheap flussy comes around flaunting and re runs after her. ( sorry thinking out loud again.bad Marsah bad marsha)

I do not wish to share any information about this dead end journey.........I have reached my final destination on this train, and it is time for me to get off.

THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"If marriage means you fell in love, does divorce mean you climbed out?"

"You never really know a man until you have divorced him."-Zsa Zsa Gabor

"When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife." Deuteronomy 24:1-2

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." - Franklin D. Roosevelt

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us." - Helen Keller

"Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?" - Mary Manin Morrissey

"I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much." - Mother Theresa
