Like other advices, get the connecting flight with 4-5hours transit within USA. You may face a long line in the immigration first checkpoint or deal with your baggage or spend more time in the secondary inspection area.

You can marry anywhere in US.Marriage is a good bussiness in Nevada. They will just ask for the valid picture ID and money in cash for getting the license. The courthouse for getting the marriage license will open all weekend (friday 8am to sunday 12AM), Monday-Thursday 8am-12pm.There are many couples getting the marriage license there from different states and countries. Once you getyour license, there are many wedding chapel people waiting for you outside to help you with the marriage as soon as possible. :-) After getting married, get your certified copies in the courthouse the following day. Even if you don't have time to get ones, many letters will be mailed to you to help you on getting the certified copies.

About the SSN,some states may give SSN to the K1 visa holder without the EAD or green card. Unfortunately, in some other states, you may have some difficulties and even denial for the SSN before your EAD/green card. The SSN should be taken from the nearest local office of your residency.

So you get the SSN BEFORE or after getting married?

And can't I apply for it in the state I am getting married in? Even if it's not the one where my fiance currently resides?

Also, how many days do you think this whole thing is going to take?

I need to know so that we can tell my fiance's employer how many days off he will need....

THANK YOU, all of you!!

My wife applied for the SSN 16 hours after she arrived. She had the card itself in 6 days and the number the next business day. It is listed on our marriage lisence issued 8 days after she arrived. You can apply for an SSN anywhere in the USA. You can get married the same day you arrive, if you want. How long it takes is up to you (and possibly a waiting period in the state where you marry)

Ok thank you. That helps :)

Take care!

One more question... am I allowed to work once I am married? Or do I have to wait to have a green card for that?

I am so confused now!

Thanks a loT!

Ok other question... how long does it usually take between the time you are married and the time you can start working?

how long after the wedding do you file for AOS?

Thanks a lot!

You cannot work until you receive the green card or EAD. The SSN will come in handy for many things though, get it ASAP in your MAIDEN name. Change the name on the SS card (if you desire) AFTER you get your green card. The SSN stays the same for life.

For a K-1 it is just as easy to file for AOS and EAD at the same time, and cheaper that way. The EAD is of really small value to a K-1 prior to filing for AOS, so it sure isn't worth paying $300 + just to file it before AOS. Do not be surprised if you get the green card first. We got everything all in about the same week. The EAD will take about 2 months after filing (typically) and the green card 2-6 months. You can file for AOS immediately after getting married if you wish.
