I'm a US citizen and will be getting married to a Romanian citizen in Romania this summer. Just wondering if anyone has updated prices for the medical exam in Bucharest for the both of us and any recommended clinics in the area. Also it says we must have proof if previously married. Do we need anything if neither of us has been previously married? Thanks.

do you need a medical exam to get married? If not, you are a long way from needing a visa medical for your future wife as you could be a year or so away from a visa and the visa medical should be done close in to the interview

YMMV

There is no proof of being single. (Just joking!)

No nothing else needed.

The US embassy there will issue the Certificate of Cutuma, or whatever its name is, to indicate your marital status, not that you're single. Being single is not the same as not being married, cause you could have a partner and not be single, yet you're not married.

Thanks guys. I heard it would cost me about $100 for the medical there but have heard higher.

It depends where you're taking it. Some doctor offices treat this as a formality, others do run each and every test. We married in the Romania's consulate in Chicago, and we had to have this medical certificate done. On insurance, it costs about $100 too.

The tricky thing is that the medical exam has to be valid the day you get married (within 14 days since the issue of the medical exam), and it takes about 10 days to be scheduled to get married at a local mayor office. So count the weekend days into it very carefully.

Oh, and btw, I suppose you are going to file for her immigration? If you do, why not try to shoot for both events, marriage and immigration?

Go to a clinic approved by the US Embassy for the adjustment of status medical exam, some of the tests you need for immigration are also needed for the marriage certificate. Think about it. For the cost of one exam, you get both your needs covered...

I didn't even think about that. Thanks a lot map1map. Greatly appreciated.

Here is a list of those hospitals/clinics that do the immigration exam (taken from the embassy's website):

http://travel.state.gov/pdf/medical/BCH-ME...T-0001-0807.pdf

It might be a bit more expensive than the $100 you were thinking, all as an out of pocket expense might seem pricey, but at least the blood test, the STD tests, the TB and pulmonary radiography if needed, all come into the medical certificate that your future wife needs for marriage. By summer time, you'll get your finances in order, and you'll be a step ahead:) Ask your future wife to check if any of these would do her/your/both of your pre-marital health certificates, if they would accept some/any of the tests that you might do here in the States, if you have insurance.

Good luck!
