IF you've only got a verbal repotoire of, say 60 words, then your answers are going to come pretty fast. Plus, I haven't heard our President MAKING UP WORDS like Dubya. Wow, maybe he is actually searching for the BEST word for what he is trying to say, as opposed to hoping for the ONLY word another person might sorta remember through an alcoholic haze.

I suggest we all get up in front of say, a few million people and try to say something without spitting out hundreds of AAAAA's.

I can forgive Obama the odd stammer or wrong word here and there.

He's still a better public speaker than George W Bush - by a very long way. I gave up watching W's press conferences when he was Pres - they used to be funny, but he gaffed so often that I think he actually lowered the standard for what people expect from their public officials.

At no point did Bush ever seem as though he had a handle on what he was being asked; and while I think that journalists generally expect B/S answers from politicians at press conferences - "W" was consistently unable to demonstrate that he actually understood the issues to provide a halfway convincing answer to the questions asked.

It was embarassing to watch tbh - and I'm not a USC.

Obama does have a stammer, but to openly mock what very well may be a condition is in poor taste. For anyone really interested in the content, there was plenty of substance in what he said to feed the mind. It's too bad that some prefer a President with a swagger in his voice vs. one who can actually articulate a thought.

I think the focus should always be on what a person says rather than how they say it.

As I say though - Bush's problem was not simply that he was a bad public speaker (he was pretty bad of course), it was that he clearly (and quite obviously) did not understand the issues to answer the questions he was asked. As someone who is supposed to lead the nation, and is in a sense a primary definer for those issues (at least as far as the public discourse goes) it was pretty embarrassing that he was unable to do it.
