Traveling Back Home On Passport in Maiden Name

Hello,

My wife and I will be flying to her home country of Moldova.

She has her green card, and her passport in maiden name, marriage certificate (authenticated by fed and state), and SS card.

I have learned on this board to make the plane reservation in her maiden name so that the ticket matches her photo ID on her passport.

My question is, once we get to Moldova, will we have a problem leaving, will they ask her for visa information leaving her country, or will her green card be sufficient. What if any other information should we bring.

We will be changing flights in Germany if this is any problem.

We plan on changing her passport name to her married name while we are there if possible.

Once back in the USA I do not think there will be a problem if we have the marriage cert and her passport.

Thanks for any help

The green card is more than a visa so she will have no problem leaving to come back.

She won't need a transit visa.

"Airport Transit in Germany

Visa needed?

Entry clearance requirements are dependent on the citizenship and the resident status of the applicant. Due to its location at the heart of Europe, Germany is an important transit country. The vast majority of travellers do not need a visa when airtransitting through Germany. However, citizens of some countries do need an airport transit visa.

Please note that an airport transit visa only allows a short stay in the international transit area, neither leaving the airport's international transit area nor overnight stays are possible."

I have travelled with my passport and plane tickets in my maiden name, and my green card in my married name. I also took a copy of my marriage certificate/liscense to show the discrepancy. I used my passport when going through airport security (since they check to see that your ID and plane ticket match), and used my green card when going through US customs/immigration. I personally had no problems doing this.

The green card is sufficient when you enter the US.

The problem you may come up against is if you change her passport to reflect her married status while there and do not change the plane ticket to reflect that as well. If you do not have any photo ID still in her maiden name you may have difficulties going through airport security.

Wow this is a catch 22... maybe we should not change her passport to her married name, anyone have any thoughts on this?

Change it after she gets back. You most likely can mail it to an Embassy in the US for this.

I was thinking about changing my passport to my married name, but after I read all the posts, I guess it's better to do that after I get back.. Less worries! I have similar posts to yours. Yea, I guess it's all COOL as long as you have your marrieage certificate and state ID. I am leaving for Poland on July 29th... Have a good trip and have fun! :)
