Go to the Nationwide, I can't recommend them highly enough....plus and it's a BIG plus. You can move money from your Nationwide e-saving account to a Flexaccount (current) online and then withdraw it FREE from any ATM in the USA (altho some US banks make a charge the Nationwide does not) I found a local ATM with no charge too, so it's all done free.

I believe the Nationwide is still the only UK bank offering free ATM withdrawals from abroad

Tip for anyone wanting an R105 - don't ask your bank - most of them try and tell you you really want an R85 (you don't) and some have no clue what an R105 is. According to the IR - all banks and building societies SHOULD have R105's but most don't - one even told me that you 'can only get those at the Post Office' - which btw you can't; the PO doesn't DO tax forms

You can download one from the IR site - or trot along to your local tax office (who may not have any on hand but CAN print one off for you while you wait) - that's where I FINALLY got mine.

The R43 - which you will need to avoid double tax and to take to the IRS and get them to stamp - can only be obtained from the CNR (link and phone number on IR website).

Note: these forms only apply to you if you intend keeping a UK interest paying account of any kind while residing abroad.

I still have all my accounts at Lloyds TSB, including my graduate account and my online savings account - my Mum is now a signatory and has full access and power over the accounts. I just figured that was easier than trying to start all over again, and plus - if I should take Ryan to the UK, I thought it would easier to add him to my accounts than try to get a new one started. Never had any issues, and Lloyds know I now live the US. Statements go to Mum, who is still adding bits of pocket money and such in there even though I'm now 26
