Sorry for posting so many questions to this forum...but the US embassy here will not give me any help or information whatsoever. I have visited in person since I can't get through on the phone and still they turn me away. I am trying to prepare all of the paperwork I will need for when they approve my I-130. My question is when I am filling out the I-864, which income do I use? My tax returns from the past few years aren't going to help me at all because I was a full-time student in the US, only making less than $10,000 a year. Here in Ireland, I make around 15,000 Euro yearly, that's after taxes in my pocket (it's a bar tending job, I get paid in cash). Do I convert that to dollars on the form, which will just above the poverty line? Can I include my husband's income (he is the sponsored immigrant)? Are they going to want me to use a job in the U.S. for income requirements? I don't understand which income they want from me. Obviously I won't have an income in the US since we live in IRELAND! We of course planned to seek jobs before moving back, or to stay with my parents until we got jobs. We both have graduate degrees and the job market in the US has to be better than in Ireland right now...even though I know it's bad all around. I also have a few thousand dollars in a savings account in the US that we planned to use if necessary. Should I have my parents co-sponsor us? I really don't want to ask them to do that since they aren't too thrilled with my marriage in the first place. HELP!

Think you going to have to use a co sponsor unless you have assets that would be considered easily convertable to cash within a year. Income can only be used if it will continue from the same source when you are in US, but it looks like in your case it wont.

As Blue123 stated, since your income is not US based, nor is your hubby's it cannot be included. If you/him own a house in ireland you might be able to use assets, which also comes with its own guidlines and requirements. Sounds like you would need a co-sponsor which can be anyone that is a US citizen (and living in the US)and can show they meet the monetary requirements, this means a brother, a sister, an aunt, an uncle living in tahoe, a good friend, anyone! But parents are usually the best bet!
