Sorry to keep posting based on the same subject but I feel the slight differences in the subjects may help others in similar situations.

What are some ways to show proof of "self employed" income? I freelance around on different boats and usually get paid by cash.

I always report taxes whether they send me a 1099 or not. Some weeks I only fish a day or two and that money usually goes right

to use, therefore it is not deposited in my account. Other times I may pick up a run of trips for a week or two streight and then have a couple grand to deposit into a bank account. Work is not regular (especially now, in this economy) but given the past several years tax returns I can show consistency in my yearly income. 32,000 - 42,000 NET. As of now I have made around $10,000 this year but can only show deposits totaling $7,000. I anticipate about 30,000 this year. How does a self employed individual prove that? At the moment all I would be able to get would be;

*Tax transcripts going back as far as they need. I have been doing this for 17 years with a 29,000 to 50,000 income for the past 8 years.

*1 letter from a bank in C.R. that shows I have deposited $3,000 since Jan.

*Statements from my bank in MD showing I have deposited $4,200 since Jan. I anticipate another couple grand by the time I need to send this in.

*Printouts from my computer for Jan. through April showing who I worked for that day and what they paid me plus what I recieved in tips. Its just charts I made up in notepad as I'm computer illiterate (c'mon I fish).

Thanks,

Wayne

Great question.. I am in a similar situation in that I do freelance and part time graphics work... mostly from home.

A lot of my work ends up being through temp agencies/headhunters even though I work out of my apartment. I got a note from one of the agencies that says I have worked for them for months at a time and that I make a good hourly wage and my services are in demand.

My taxable income over the past 3 years has been over $40,000.

Should we worry abou this at all?
