Anyone know how I can cut through the boring way too long message at the USCIS toll free number to talk to a live person? I think the purposely make it near impossible to get a real live person on the line just to irritate us. Thanks.

You cant speak to anyone. If you really need to speak with someone then your best bet is to make a info pass appointment locally.

I use the prompt where it says change of address.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Yes, InfoPass would be best to figure out why they thought she was already here. Can talk to someone face to face.

Yep, change of address works well.

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

FYI....

1. DIAL STILL 1-800-375 – 5283

2. PRESS 1-2-1 ENTER YOUR RECEIPT NUMBER.

3. AS SOON AS THE YOU HEAR THE STATUS OF YOUR CASE, PRESS 1-3-4. THERE'S NO OPTION FOR THIS, JUST DO IT AND YOUR CALL WILL THEN BE DIRECTED TO THE SERVICE CENTER IN LINE WITH THE RECEIPT NUMBER YOU ENTERED.

4. IT WILL BE A WAIT FOR COUPLE OF MINUTES, BUT ONCE THEY ANSWER, IT WILL BE STRAIGHT THEM ASKING YOU ABOUT YOUR RECEIPT NUMBER.

5. THEY ARE VERY POLITE, AND THEY WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOUR CASE. IF IT READY TO BE ASSIGNED TO AN IMMIGRATION OFFICER, OR IF IT DUE FOR APPROVAL BY AN IMMIGRATION OFFICER, OR YOUR PAPERS IS STILL IN THE MAIL ROOM, ETC.

I copied this from somewhere here. Thanks to the original poster (I forgot to take down the name). This is with minor changes already since the USCIS changed their menus.

Ah, too cool. It connected me with the Calif service center. Is there a way to get the Charlotte, NC service center that anyone knows of? This would be a great guide to have on the website, how to connect by phone to the different service centers. Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

Quick update. I talked to a rep at the Calif svc center. He informed me that Charlotte requested that the file be sent to them and he did not know why. He only said that if they request it, they send it without question. So now if I can find a way to call the Charlotte office directly, maybe I can find out why they asked for it.

The Charlotte office is not really a service center. Its your local field office, you can probably find it in the gov pages of your phonebook.

The toll free number gets you no information on your case, unfortunately. But I did look up a number in the phone book which was the criminal or detention part of Homeland but they gave a phone number for the immigration office in Charlotte. I called there, got a recording that said if you know your party's extension, punch it in at this time but I have no extensions. So I punched to get the location information and at the end of that it gave me an option of leaving a message so I did and asked them to contact me by phone or email and left my number and email address. So I'll see what happens and if they take the time to get back to me.

I have another number information gave me but it says all circuits are busy at this time when I call it.

Wow, you must've had great luck because they've never felt inclined to tell me anything regarding my case, except what I can see online... That they received it in April 2008. Once I got to the officer, who told me he wouldn't give me any info on MY case because I wasn't an american citizen. And even when my husband called before, they didn't tell him anything other than how our case was with the FBI - for months. In fact we still don't know if it continues to be with the FBI or not. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Then again, they've so far just plain lied to us more than 3 times now, so I'm not really surprised by anything anymore :P

I'll see how lucky I am if they send me an email and tell me what's really going on. It would be nice if they would give you more information over the phone after you take the trouble to call and wade through an impossible menu to get to someone.
