PASSPORT ISSUE WITH PLANE TICKETS

This is a bit of a tricky situation that I would appreciate help from anyone who's been in it.

My wife has a green card and she needs to go home to the Philippines next week to attend a family service. Here's the problem--her passport has her first name and her maiden name since it's the one she had to get her into the country in the first place.

So, we ordered her round trip plane tickets tonight and put her first and maiden name on them to match her passport.

Here's the problem....she needs to get her passport renewed in the Philippines since she's now married to me and she told me that her Philippine passport will put her first name and new last name of mine. So, our dilemma is that when she starts to leave her country she will have a passport with her first name and my last name but boarding passes with her original maiden name on them. Will this cause any problems with customs?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I was in the similar situation last time I visit my country. I had my old passport with my maiden name but the tickets and GC shows my new last name. I took with me marriage certificate so they could verify names. I didn't have any problems.

Just bring the original marriage certificate/license with her, then there would be no problem either way. Btw, after she get the new passport, she would probably (not sure) get the old passport back with the corner on the pic/info page cut, so bring the old passport and new passport together, another way to save problem. Hope that helps!

We took care of that at the Venezuelan consulate in Chicago, both my wife and I went together and had our marriage registered in her country, got her Venezuelan ID card updated with her married name so all her names matched with her green card. Much easier to do it here than in Venezuela. Maybe the same for you with your country.

Recall having to get an apostille from our secretary of state, only cost a couple of bucks, but all this was done in advance of our trip. Recall I also needed to bring my birth certificate.

She can get an amendment from the Philippine Consulate/Embassy near your residence. Or, if the passport is about to expire, just get a new one. The only thing is you have to register your marriage through the embassy. The embassy will forward your Report of Marriage to the NSO in the Philippines.

As for your travel now - just bring marriage certificate.
