Not sure if it's posted anywhere haven't found it.

I am still a ways away from an interview. I am just wondering if my kids will have to be present at the interview, when the times comes.

They are 11 and soon to be 9.

As well as a letter from there biological father does it need to be notorized? We sent one in with I130's not notorized and am trying to get one done up. A bit hard as he lives 8 hours away.

I thought it was 14. Hmmm... Here's info.

"Certain consulates do not require a child of k-1 visa holder to attend the interview, if he/she is below the age of 14. "

My son was 8 and at the time of the interview and he didn't have to be there. I don't recommend bringing young children, they could get bored fast.

that's what I was thinking. Although I am not going k1 as I am already married, not sure if it would be the same.

I believe it is under 14 as well, however they will specify it on your interview letter (last paragraph) : from the Canada VJ Wiki page

Oh I just noticed you also asked about whether the letter for travel, from her Father, needs to be notarized, i'm sure someone here who has done that would know, hopefully they will pop in.

Finally found the document I was looking for:

Consulate General Montreal Instructions at travel.state.gov

Now the thing is, how would you know if the requirement is waived for your children?

If I were you I would email the consulate and specifically ask them, be sure to put the beneficiaries name and case number in the subject field.

mailto: Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov

PERSONAL APPEARANCE OF CHILDREN UNDER AGE 14

In general, all immigrant visa applicants must appear before a United States consular officer for an interview. However, the personal appearance of a child under age 14 may be waived at the discretion of a consular officer. Most children under age 14 whose parents apply for an immigrant visa at the U.S. Consulate General Montreal will be exempted from the interview requirement and do not need to be present at the visa interview.

I didn't have my letter notarized. In fact it was just a fax and it was literally a sentence, his signature and phone number.

My letter stated, 'all applicants listed below are scheduled to attend the interview' myself and my son were listed below... so confused, I emailed the Embassy.

They responded with 'any children under 14, do not need to attend, please bring all their documents to the interview'

My travel authorization was a revised separation agreement, where he granted permission to relocate with the child' it was notarized. I air on the side of caution... I would hate to get there and find out there are delays cause they wanted it notarized. If it's easy to get done, then I would do it...

It's weird though, cause even though they say 'children under 14 need not attend' when I was there for my interview, there were many small children in attendance... not sure if they were USC's or what... I was surprised to see so many kids.

Good luck
