hi sis! i arrived here last april 10. I just wanna know how can i get ssn? can i get married even without it? or better if i apply for it first? There are cases for other visas i read in VJ wherein they got their SSN automatically without applying for it, i wonder if it is the same for K1 visa? I hope you guys can enlighten me with this, thank you in advance!:)

You go to the SSA office - complete an SS-5 in order to obtain the number/card. You will not get it automatically without applying for it.

You can get married without a SSN/Card in virtually every state.

for k1 visa i do believe you have to initiate applying for one... some states require ssn before they can give you a permit to marry. some states doesnt require for it. for me its best to apply for an ssn before you get married (some said its best to apply after. up to you)... but pls bring your passport together w/ your I-94 and present it to the ssa... when i went there they said im not allowed to get one but i stood my ground and told them that yes i am allowed and showed them the requirements they had on their desk. and it seemed like im qualified so they gave in lol... you have to apply for an ssn before your I-94 expired. otherwise you have to wait for your GC (what ive heard)... good to have an ssn coz some banks wont allow you to open an account and some health insurance as well... good luck!

Yep, you can get marry in California even without SSN. Some states require SSN when applying for a marriage license. If I were you, better to apply for an SSN now.
