Steven, I'd like to know how come you think the government has the power to control the border for the flu, but it's impossible to do that for illegals crossing.

I never said that. However, closing off the border to all commercial exports and imports to and from Mexico alone would severely cripple our already battered economy.

Mexico exported US$198.3 billion worth of merchandise to the United States in 2006, up 16.5% from 2005 and up 47.3% in just 4 years.

Mexican imports from the U.S. rose 11.5% to $134.2 billion in 2006, up 37.6% since 2002.

That may be true, but it is not our largest trading partner. That is not proof that a temporary blockade would "severely cripple" our economy.
