Excuse me for the dumb question, the thing is that im sending my n400 i 2 weeks, but after that i want to go away for 2 weeks, and i wantto make sure im here fo the fingerprints, so im tying to forecast more or less when they will send me for the finger prints. My question is how does it work? after you send the paper work, you receive NOA1, is this just a generic receipt? or within this NOA1 you also get the date for your fringer prints? or you get a NOA2 with the finger print date on it?

Again thanks for your time.

Biometrics are handled by the application service centers, so it all depends on how busy the center near you is as to when they send out the biometrics appointment letter. Why not wait until after your trip to file the N-400?

My wife had her fingerprinting done four weeks after her application was received. If you file right before your trip, you I think you'll be back in time for the fingerprint appointment.

My wife and I were going to file at the beginning of November but we had planned a trip to the Philippines for later that month and didn't want to miss the fingerprint notice or appointment. We figured we'd wait to file until a couple days before leaving on our trip. Well, then I lost my job, so we didn't file until five months later. If we'd filed when she was first eligible, she'd be a citizen by now.

The NOA1 is a receipt of your application. Some time after that you will receive a letter with your biometrics appointment info. If you do happen to miss your scheduled biometrics appointment, you can do it afterwards as a "walk-in" - it is at he office's dicresion of they permit it, except for Wednesday afternoon, when they must accept walk-in applicants (provided you have your appointment letter, and your walk-in is within 30 days after that scheduled date. I would suggest filing immediately before your leave, or, alternatively, just wait & file when you return.
