The US is a civilized society, it doesn't just let people die in the streets (well not openly any way). These people will get treated one way or another and with a flu epidemic possibly on the way, this is not really a great time to overburden the ER rooms, now is it?

Illegal immigrants can get healthcare here in Oregon. When I applied for my daughter, one of the requirements stated that I had to show proof of US Citizenship. However, if the applicant was not a legal citizen, no proof was necessary. That didn't make much sense to me. If they don't care if you're legal or not, why make the real citizens prove they're legal?

To put you in the system so the insurance company gets their remuneration. It's really not that hard to understand.

I understand that your information has to be put into the system. But why make me provide a US birth certificate for my daughter to prove her citizenship if they're going to give her insurance, legal or not?

To prove that she is who you say she is. The insurance companies have a duty to their company to ensure that claims to insurance are legitimate. They do not want to be burdened with paying for anyone but they will pay for those that have a legitimate claim - if they have to.

Yes I know, what I'm trying to say is that it states in the application if you're "not a legal citizen" that you don't have to provide any proof like a birth certificate or anything. They just take your word on who you are I suppose.

Naive in simplicity of course, but the truth is that most Americans do not want to see people dying in the streets from disease so they put up with the inconvenience of paying for the treatment of anyone, regardless of ability to pay and in fact legal status.

I think you miss the point in that illegal aliens do show up at ER's seeking treatment for non-life threatening illnesses. Not to mention that in places like Houston, Harris County, TX there are taxpayer funded health clinics that dole out free services to illegal aliens as well that have absolutely nothing to do with life threatening situations. Like flies to honey. Yep...put a lid on that jar of honey to stop attracting flies. They are illegally in our country and have no entitlement to taxpayer funded services. That is the bottom line.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

This is true, but then you have the public health fact that if you keep the people you share air with healthy, disease rates as a whole tend to be lower.

The long-term solution, of course, is to make sure that people who aren't legally here can't share air with us (i.e. deportation).

In the short-term though, to deliberately allow illness to fester in those communities by depriving them of basic preventative care is to cut off our noses to spite our face.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Who is talking about entitlement? It's got nothing to do with entitlement and everything to do with whether the US undertakes a minimum standard of care to anyone who is on its soil. Currently, despite the efforts of certain frothy mouthed right wingers, that standard of care is being upheld in a reasonably cost effective way. Measures that shift the burden of that care around, instead of addressing the real underlying causes, will change nothing except drive the costs up. No thanks.

"None of us choose to get sick," said Espinoza, 39. "I can't afford the medications. How can I pay for that? It's that or rent."

This is how i felt when i got sick but couldn't afford insurance... except that i was born here and pay taxes and i do everything i'm supposed to do...

i agree that in our country, we don't (and shouldn't) let people die in the streets... however, we shouldn't bankrupt regular, working citizens for procedures with soaring unjustified costs.

I have an idea. Make camps where we'll ship all the ill ones to via train cars. Make them take off all their clothes and then have them go through a disinfection process. Give them government issued clothing with the word 'illegal' embroidered onto their shirt pocket.

Is this another of your victim worship posts? If it is, I think you are shakey ground with this one. That dawg don't hunt. It rolls over and falls asleep.

Victims? The American taxpayers are the victims to these leeches. It's time we stop paying for our neighbor's poor excuses for being a Third World country. Keep the slave labor over there where it's not an eye sore.

What do you think maquiladora was all about? Ship American jobs over there and whatever can't be shipped over the border can be done by cheap illegal alien workers over here subsidized by the US taxpayer. But guys like you think the real solution is to just tax the rich for raping the taxpayer. So what do we do with the unemployed here in the USA? Are they supposed to take a back seat to illegal aliens already over here?

Guys like you think the answer is to amnesty and unionize illegal aliens in the USA to punish the corporations. Guys like me see labor as the comodity it is. Kick the illegal aliens out and put Americans to work. And if we choose to unionize...so be it.

Mexico can do what it has been doing since whenever. They are not our responsibility. That is their people and their country is their internal affair to come to grips with.

Nativist, racist, xenophobe? OK, whatever. Illegal aliens are not our responsibility. That's just the way I see it. When I see unemployed Americans, I can give a rat's azz about illegal aliens. Illegal Immigrants Will Get Stimulus Jobs

Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11:15PM

By Brad O’Leary

One big beneficiary of President Obama’s stimulus bill will be illegal immigrants. It’s estimated that tens of thousands of jobs created by the economic stimulus plan would be filled by illegal immigrants, particularly in California and Texas, where illegal immigrants make up a large portion of the construction industry.

Studies predict illegal immigrants living and working in the U.S. could take up to 300,000 construction specific jobs, or 15 percent of the two million jobs the new taxpayer-financed bill will create.

The House version of the $787 billion stimulus package originally required anyone who would receive employment benefits to have their legal residency verified. However, that provision was removed from the final piece of legislation.

According to Steve Camarota, Director of Research for the Center for Immigration Studies, the resident verification condition was deleted by Democrat leaders of Congress before the bill ever made it to committee. Specifically, the condition that was removed would have required the identities of those individuals seeking employment benefits from the stimulus package to be vetted through an internet based E-Verifying system. This system is a quick way to reference eligibility from the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration.

“E-Verify is our most effective tool for preventing illegal immigrants from getting jobs, and they chose not to use it,” said Camarota.

Wake up and smell the coffee. These people are not our responsibility.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."
