g-325a for AOS - HELP! - uncertain

On the G-325a form my new spouse is filling out for the AOS packet the form asks...

"This form is submitted in connection with an application for:"

with choices of:

_ Naturalization

_ Other (Specify): _______

_ Status as Permanent Resident

I know I should either check "Status as Permanent Resident" or Other, and then specify "adjust status".

This is made confusing by the title of the I-485 itself which is called the "Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status"... so is there a distinction and how would that effect what to put on the 325a?

I have looked at the sample forms online and searched the forums but have not found a convincing or complete rational for which one to pick.

Status as Permanent Resident.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

I think if the G-325a is with the I-130 then you should put OTHER - I-130 PETITION

and if the gg325 is with the I-485, you should put ADJUSTMENT FOR PERMANENT RESIDENT

If you are appying at the same time (I-130 and I-485) you should have 8 copies of G-325 i.e 4 of each one.

If you are appying at the same time (I-130 and I-485) you should have 8 copies of G-325 i.e 4 of each one.

3 copies of G-325A:

- one for the USC in connection with the I-130

- one for the alien in connection with the I-130

- one for the alien in connection with the I-485

Each copy has 4 pages, for a total of 12 pages (3 copies x 4 pages).
