What's that list about? Is that a requirement for moving to the US under a K1?

The list for bringing your personal and household goods with you when you immigrate.

Is that a requirement from the US or one of the instructions the embassy gives you?

Requirements for Driving across Border with belongings in tow:

Here's what I'm guessing we need to have when driving over the border...

1- The "Do Not Open" Package from USCIS.

2- Passport with Visa stamp.

3- Letter from Auto Manufacturer (stating that the vehicle meets US configurations for safety and EPA).

4- Notarized letters stating that my parents and I have permission to drive his belongings over the border (we will be caravanning through the POE and we'll all stop and all go into secondary while he gets processed).

5- Money to pay for some form (I'm sure there's some fee of some sort... I can't imagine the US requiring a form with out some sort of fee).

6- Itemized list of what boxes are in what vehicles.

Other than that. . . suggestions????

Bill of sale for the vehicle and/or the registration. He will need to bring these inside with him. The I-94 fee is $6.

Here you go. It's a requirement of Customs & Immigration:

Okay, so I went looking for the CBP form. Is this right??? The most recent form is from 1995??? That can't be! But, I got the form from the CBP itself!

ok, what notarized letter??? I thought if my fiance was following behind me in my car and we cross at same time, both cars filled with my stuff, we just pull into secondary together?

And fee for what form? I thought the only form needed other than our visa package, is the 3299 that my mover will be doing for me, for 'items to follow' without me being present?

July, you only need that form, if he is sending stuff over after the fact? or are you guys not crossing together? I mean, will someone else be driving his stuff over, when he is not activating his Visa?

About POE:

I just crossed the other day. Went very smoothly even though they claimed they didn't do K1s very often. We crossed at Buffalo Peace bridge and it was pretty straightforward.

First window, we told the guy we were using K1, he asked if we were married, we said no and he looked at all my ####### in the back seat and then said, "Whats all that??" Ummm. Duh. It's my stuff, I am moving :) To then he said "wow, all her stuff fits in the back of your Prius...not bad. She's a keeper!" Haha, so, some light humor which was nice.

Then, we were directed to go into building 2 (The first guy kept our passports, gave us a small paper and told some people we were coming over). We went in and it was empty (7 am or so) and waited for my name to be called. The guy was a bit grumpy at first but warmed up to me. Must be my charm  haha. I waited for him to do the paperwork, he called me back up, and I did some fingerprints. I paid the $6 for the I-94 which was stapled to my passport, and he explained a bit to me (most I already knew ;) He asked if I had any q's....and was out there door in about 20 mins.

Easy peasy.

FYI they never looked at ANY of the stuff in our car, or asked for any itemized stuff etc. I know it's better to be prepared than not but I wouldn't break your arm trying to itemize every single box.

We are getting married Friday and then sending in all our paperwork on Monday (WHICH BTW we were told to not MAIL our stuff in but to actually GO to the USCIS office where my stuff is being mailed to in order to do the AoS. Come to think of it, I hope it is there by Monday. The CBP guy said it would take 3 days....but....who knows). But, after Monday I can relax for a while and just wait for the AoS and EAD and AP and the AEG, I-283 (haha, I made that last one up to throw people into a panic... Can ya tell Im bored :) )

Good luck to all continuing!!!! Almost there :)

Ugh you are right!! Why did he tell me that???? Now that I think of it I remember the Chicago thing. Granted, he didn't overly know what he was doing. Lovely. I will call tomorrow and find out. Saves us a trip to Richmond :) I'll let you know what I find out!

July, you only need that form, if he is sending stuff over after the fact? or are you guys not crossing together? I mean, will someone else be driving his stuff over, when he is not activating his Visa?

Well, according to the form... at the top: PART I -- TO BE COMPLETED BY ALL PERSONS SEEKING FREE ENTRY OF ARTICLES. At the bottom: *An Authorized Agent is defined as a person who has actual knowledge of the facts and who is specifically empowered under a power of attorney to execute this declaration (see 19 CFR 141.19, 141.32, 141.33).

So, if we are bringing ALL of his belongings over in our three vehicles, we do NOT need the form... even though it says we do?? We just need the notarized letters. Again, wanna be OVER-PREPARED b/c then there should be (if all goes well) less questions.

Ok, Carrie, I'm almost certain it's Chicago lock box... your local office is for getting infopass appmnts etc... but I will let the pro's chime in... check the USCIS site.... or the AOS guides on here, it links you to the site. oh, and i'm crossing at Lewiston Bridge, same boarder, different crossing :) And how exciting, getting married Friday!!!! Awww... you will have a husband...one to yell at when he's getting on your nerves lol! Just kidding, all the best!

July- I think what you are looking at for 'notarized auth' is if the friend or relative is crossing with your goods, but not with the owner of the goods... this would help prove the person in possession of the items is not trying to sneak in the country and stay lol! and that they belong to someone who has a Visa... again, just my take... let the pro's surface :)

It would seem silly for your fiance to notarize a form giving them permission when he's standing right there? But then again... CPB...who knows!!!!

By the time this is all done... we will be pro's!!!

Ooops, sorry. That was too funny. No, you need to mail the AOS to the Chicago lockbox.

Man I hate calling government offices!!

So, Poprocks you are correct, it IS ther Chicago lockbox address. I knew beforehand about that one, but when he said take it in to Richmond I just thought "OK! Must be the way they do things in VA!".

Turns out, my local office is in NORFOLK, VA and there isnt EVEN one in Richmond!! Oh lord. So now of course I am panicking wondering if this guy knew anything at all what he was doing and WHERE my papers were sent!! I am going to make an appt with Norfolk in a couple weeks (Im also assuming the guy had no clue what he was saying when he said it would be there in 3 days) so I will wait till it gets in the system somewhere.

I just hate not knowing where it is. I wouldnt care if the guy that processed me seemed to know what he was doing, but telling me to go to my local imaginary office in Richmond is clearly not accurate.

I'll send my AoS to Chicago and follow up in a few weeks. Looks like we shouldn't assume ppl know what they are talking about, even if they are paid to know :)

Here's my take on it...all USCIS officials are trained the same way....then they are branched into respective depts, where they gain further expeience and knowledge in what they do each day. If they were trained on something 5 years ago, and many memos and changes have evolved, if they are nor dealing with it each day, all they will know is the basics. That's why a CPB officer will have knowledge of the basic rules, but not extensive ins and outs of a CO officer at an Embassy. The CPB person knows the rules but their expertise is clearance. Immigration office employees will specialize in requirements, docs etc...

It's like going into a beauty store, all the employees may be in the beauty industry, but you wouldn't ask the make up counter girl about blo dryer models LOL!

My rule of thumb is that I will use them for what their intended purpose is...CPB officer foe POE and the USCIS and VJ websites for filing.

The CPB officers job is to send in the paperwork...don't worry, I'm sure he did that. Think about how much trouble he would get into if he signed you through and never submitted the work?

Ps. Is CPB officer the right term ? Haha! :)

I'll be a month or so behind you, so I'll see how it works out for ya...

Let us know about SSN after you go..

Sorry for typos I'm on treadmill LOL!
