A K-1 is a non-immigrant visa so, unfortunately, that doesn't apply to him.

Big bummer.

They just say you have to complete the DS-230 and he did. That still doesn't matter? I thought this process was supposed to get easier! LOL

Doesn't hurt to try!

And, no, the process doesn't get easier. In fact, it gets harder once you move to the US and try to establish yourself. I did a lot of

It got better after the second year, though.

I think the only thing that is easier is waiting on the next step together rather than apart.... I mean the AOS phase.

Well day 3 in the US is '2-0' US vs. ME LOL!

I went to Target, no success on getting a CC, today I went to TD Bank, couldn't get a bank account opened even riding on my fiancé as primary without an SSN :(

Anyone know of banks who do it? My fiancé is with Wachovia (spelled it wrong I'm sure LOL).

Any thoughts, or should I wait to apply for SSN?

It's so frustrating starting over :(

I'll try Macys tmrw.

All my money is in CA and I'm using my debit and CC's with the currency conversion.

I also don't know what I'm gonna do about my address change. I worry if we get called for an AOS interview and they see we moved without changing it, they'll get annoyed with us.

Thanks guys :)

I don't know any banks that will allow you to open an account w/o an SSN #. Even with my passport, marriage cert, etc. I couldn't get any bank to open me an account. Even to be added to Glen's account, nope. So I waited until I got my SSN, and he just gave me cash for anytime I needed moolah, it sucked. I would apply for your SSN as soon as you return from FL, as you should be in the system by then.

I got rejected last week for a Target CC too.

Jill, I feel better that you got rejected too ;) haha! Just kidding, you know what I mean... I'm just glad to have you guys that share my journey... It kinda sucks...no independance...

JulyB was able to open an account with her fiancé as a secondary holder and no SSN... I guess it's just luck sometimes...

I sent her a text asking her a question today and she called me right back... It was nice to chat for a bit...we were laughing about my POE experience...

The funny part is that my mom was having a nicotine fit and they wouldn't allow her to go outside... In the end (and you really have to know my mother LOL) they wished he well, my mom turns rudely and says 'oh boy, I'm not sure I'll be back anytime soon' we were so embarrassed! My fiancé said we were lucky they didn't tell her to turn back and go home! Haha!

SunTrust in FL did it using my husband's SSN, and just told me to let them know my number when I received it. Of course, that's of no help to you whatsoever since you're in PA. :hehe: And you spelled Wachovia properly.

Not quite sure I see the problem. Just send them your change of address before you AOS.

Krikit, I am moving after we file for AOS. So I will be able to bring proof that we have been living together to a potential interview. But everyone on here including the CO's at the boarder, strongly advised against changing address 'mid' AOS, as USCIS is so unorganized, it'll never make it to my file...which causes peoples GC's to get lost in mail. However, we will have our mail forwarded from our old address and still own the property, so it's not as if we can't access that mail.

What form will I need to complete fir an address change?

Thanks!

The links to the forms are in my previous post. But I wouldn't change my address under those circumstances, either. Can you use your new address on your AOS application? If I remember correctly, the envelopes from USCIS have a DO NOT FORWARD stamp on them. At least the NOA and biometrics will. The GC, I believe, came in an unmarked envelope. I almost threw it out because I thought it was junkmail. :o

Hey all...

so i'm back from Florida....It was awesome! Our move has been delayed, and i'm still at a hotel for another week :(

I am going to the SSN office Monday, wish me luck!

Just wanted to update you guys and let you know, that I managed to obtain 3 credit cards. All based on my Canadian credit.

I applied for Amex a few weeks before I moved to the US. I was advised that once I get an SSN, and build some history with them, I can trans the card over in a few months.

Within a couple of days of arriving, I applied for a Macy's and JCPenny card with my Canadian Passport and my Canadian address...etc.... no US info....I got approved for both... I will wait for my SSn and permenant address and then trans them.

Not sure if this will help anyone else, but good luck :)

I was not worried about 3 pulls on my canadian credit record, cause it'll be the last I use of it. I am now set with 3 credit cards, I hope over the next year or so, they will help me build credit.

I am also getting a joint account with my fiance and he will add me to his credit card.

We are set to get married at the Jersey shore, at sunset on July 7th. Our rain date is July 14th.

I have spoken to the minister and she is allowing me to take the license after the ceremony and get it certified at the City Clerks office ourselves, so we will have it right away.

I am hoping to file my AOS by the end of July, this will put us at the 60 day mark.

I am also waiting to trans my car ownership and DL until after the wedding so I can use my married name.

I am still at a loss about what to do about our address change. Right now USCIS has address #1, and we are moving out of here in one week. We will be staying at address #2 for 4-6 months while we renovate our new home. All of my ID's etc... will have address #2 on it, so it would make sense to use this address. This location is owned by my fiances father and we will have a lease, but no utility bills. Then address #3 will be owned by us, with utility bills, but we will not fully occupy for a few months.

Clear as mud? I figure my two options are, leave address as is, as we will still own address #1 and it will be rented out. Or we can change address to #2, either way, we can receive mail at either location, without having to forward.

My only worry is that if we leave address #1 in place and file, if we get called for an interview, they will see that all of our proof is in address #2 and scold us for not notifying them?

i'm thinking of trying to change to address #2 and whether or not they send it to either address, we will get our mail.

sorry if I lost you guys :(

I'll post back on Monday and let you know how SSN goes. I'm taking all the documentation I printed off of VJ to prepare in case they say I cannot apply. I am applying for myself and my son.

Wish me luck! lol!

ps. July Bride, did you guys make the big move?????

I know i've read this somewhere before, but how many days do you have to apply for a SSN? I think I read somewhere that you have 70 days to apply and if you wait any longer you need to have your GC? I've been here for 2 and a half weeks and haven't gone yet... I'm really in no hurry. I don't need it for the marriage license, and I decided not to be added to the fiances bank account until after the wedding (simply because were lazy and don't want to change the names on things after). Its not a pressing need for me.... That and the office closes at 4, which is rather inconvienent!

You need to go before your I-94 expires (I think its like 15 days before or something like that) or else you have to wait until you get your EAD which is rather inconvenient. I would probably go sooner, rather than later.

I probably should've waited a week or two so that I was in the system.
