She is graduating middle of may. I am afraid that because I am waiting for the k-1 visa, I will have problems at the POE. Also I am collecting unemployment now, so it will be even more difficult to prove that I do not want to stay. (Although I probably make more money here being unemployed that in theUS :)

Also money is an issue. And she is also planning to come here in July.

Should I just go? I was thinking of a surprise trip. I can only stay a week but, it will cost like 800 euros(ticket etc etc).... Is it better to save it or to go.?

Thanks.

sorry if i posted in the wrong place

If you have a valid visitors visa/vwp, and can show strong ties to your country, - go fo it.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

No one here can tell you what will happen at the port of entry.

Having a K1 in process (in and of itself) is not enough to deny you entry.

If you can afford to loose the euros, go for it. Having a return ticket will be in your favor. Also being honest at port of entry will go a long way.

Beyond that - no one knows.

I think at the very least it would be a nice gesture. I'm in the states so I don't quite understand the conversion of Euros to dollars. But 800 euro is a bit of money.

If you can't make it I'm sure your fiance is aware of your situation and knows you're with him in spirit even though you can't be there physically.

I wouldn't go

Could waste a lot of money

You are still in the dating / fiance stage.

Try to stay low around major holiday, Her Birthday, Christmas Etc.

Make sure you fiance is well aware of your B-Day so you can collect all the prizes..

I think i missed an E. It Should have been Fiancee. I am the male. I do not mind to spend money on the basis that we are only in the fiance stage. I think I already made my mind up about spending the rest of my life with her, so that is not a problem.

The problem is more on the short term side of things.

The other day I was making some calculations:

Ticket to USA (once K-1 is given): 700$

Marriage etc. 5000$

Aos + EA= 1400$

Moving expenses: 1500$

New apt: deposit + month etc = 3000$

So it can easily go over 10k

On the other hand graduation happens once. I think she would be happy, but looking at all the coming expenses, it is kind of irresponsible to spend more money.

On the long term side of things, 800 is not a big deal...but one of my professor used to say... In the long term we all die....

What does this post even mean?

To the OP: if you can afford to spend the money and you want to be with your fiancee on her graduation day, then you should go. But I'm not sure about the 'surprise' part. If she's not expecting you to come, she may make plans with family, so if I were in your shoes, I'd go ahead and let her know! Plus talking with her about it might give you a better perspective.

Good luck!

If you don't need to apply for visitor visas, and can somehow prove you don't intend to marry her on a visitor visa, then go. At least I would give it a shot. (read the other topics about vising the US fiance while on the K-1 Visa process, you might find some useful comments).

And if you plan on surprising her, I don't think it would be a problem. I think that's very cute. If my fiance came here and surprised me, I wouldn't mind it AT ALL. I would actually love it. And if I had other plans with family or friends I would postpone or include my fiance in those plans because I can always hang out with those people but not with my fiance because he lives so far away. Well, you should know how your fiancee feels about surprises anyways.

Good luck and I hope you can make it to her graduation!

wish me luck

no such thing as luck.

Either you get in or you don't.

Now - when I was in the Navy, one guy was able to fly home early to "surprise" his wife (two weeks before the ship was going to pull into port after a 6 month deployement). Well, he certainly recieved a surprise when he walked into his apartment, she was "entertaining" some other guy...

Not that will happen in your case....

IN that case I will need OJ's lawyer ....

Anyway if I had those worries, I would not even be going through this process. .... There are so many things to worry about, and if trust was an issue, by the end of the 1rd month, I would have been done with it.

If not well, then I will be cornuto e mazziato

LUCK!!!

FWIW, of all the cases of entry or denial I've so far read (here and elsewhere), I've yet to see one in which the CO actually looked at any such proofs of intent to return. Indeed, in the few cases of denials I've read, the big complaint seems to be refusal to consider such documents.

For my fiancee who has come in now 3x this year... once following I129F submission ... she simply went up to the CO smiling, said she's here on holiday and get's perhaps one easy follow up question (in March it was: "packing any Kielbasa?" ... which was weird because we had been discussing that before her trip!! :D) and that's it. I94 approved for 6 months even though here longest request was 9 days. :)

She was never asked if I was her fiancee or if she was on unemployment or whatever.

Be friendly, open, honest and just answer the questions asked, but no more. You'll do fine.

the fact you have a K1 in progress could help. show that you'd screw up the K1 if you got married, so are disincentivised to do so? lack of job doesn't help though, hmm.

my fiance graduates around then too but luckily he flies out here the day after. i'm upset about missing it, but not in your situation of having to wait til july, which sucks

you could pay for her to fly over as a surprise maybe or meet in a third country?

Very few people are ever sure what TCO means. He has a demented view of the world. AS this post of his shows.

To the OP, I say GO FOR IT!! You will give your SO a surprise that will last a lifetime.
