Hello all :)

I'm not at that stage yet but I would like to prepare as best I could, and keep busy also :P

Here are my two questions :

- Police Certificate : on the VJ info page about the Belgian Embassy it states that a letter can be addressed to the Ministry of Justice,

but on the embassy site I see I need the following : "Police Certificates from all places lived since age 16"

Are those the same thing, do they deliver just one paper that's valid for every places or do I need to get one from every places?

It seems Belgium is undergoing yet another change about police certificates and such so I'm a bit lost.

- Medical - vaccinations records : I don't have any records :( I know I've had some of the required vaccines but I don't have any proof of it.

Should I just redo them all  ? The thought of that makes me shiver lol

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Shanh,

Have you lived in Belgium since you were 16? If so, then I believe you would only need to ask from a police certificate from Belgium. However, if you have lived in any other place since you were 16, or been arrested in any other place, you would need to get police certificates from those countries as well.

In terms of vaccines, are you sure you wouldn't be able to get them from previous hospitals, schools, etc? If not, then I've read that there is a blood test you can take that would show which vaccines you've already taken, but I'm unsure how this works or how it works in relation to a medical exam - so hopefully someone else on this forum who knows more about that would be able to respond!

Sorry I wasn't able to help further! Good luck with everything!

Hi Argentina and thanks :)

I've always lived in Belgium, 3 different sub parts of the same district though :P

I see that via City Hall I can request something resembling a police record, maybe it's that.

For the vaccines, no idea if schools and such kept records at all.

Hello!

How are you?

Send the letter that you can find on VJ to the ministry of justice. Then they will send you an enveloppe with 2 copies of your * casier judiciaire* ( police record) . It`s for the entire country, so you shouldn`t worry about it.

For your vaccinations, do you have a family doctor?

If so, go and see him. Some vaccines are mandatory in Belgium ( polio, tetanus...) so he can write you a vaccination card for those. And maybe he knows what other vaccines you have had?

If not then the blood test sounds like a good idea, cause it will show the anti-bodies you have and that will most likely show which vaccines you have had.

hope that helps :)

take care!

Hi BelgiumUsa, I'm fine except for the stress of all this :P

Ok I was not sure the letter from VJ was still valid, as you can ask a "extrait de casier judiciaire" at city hall.

I'll give it a try. Or is it too early? How long is it valid?

Well my last doctor didn't give me any vaccines but maybe he'll have an idea, guess I'll give that a try also, do not want multiple shots and risking having a bad reaction to them :P

Hi!

It is still valid. I sent mine and got a reply about a week later.

I am not sure about how long it is valid... maybe someone else has that reply. My guess would be 6 months but really not sure.

I know this process is very stressful... I'm always thinking that they are testing us, to see if we REALLY want to get married :)

Take care!

OK I'll send the letter and we'll see.

And the whole process will take less than 6 months! Has to! If I repeat this often enough it's bound to come true isn't? :P

Take care :)

Well I got my notice of approval about 3 1/2 months after I filed. Then it's up to you how fast you want to make it happen. Once you get your notice of approval, then you can schedule your doc's appointment and then minimum 2 weeks later your interview at the embassy.

The reason mine is taking a bit longer is that I don't live in Belgium anymore so it's a bit harder to get everything done as fast as possible!

Take care and good luck!

I'll try to help if I can!
