Did anyone get asked by the embassy/consulate to pay for the postage to have the passport/visa/brown envelope sent to you?? May sound like a silly question but its been driving me nuts!

It's standard procedure at most consulates. I found this info on the US Embassy Amsterdam website (I assume you're applying through Amsterdam):

- Passports with visas are returned by Registered Mail - When a consular officer approves your application the Consulate needs a day to print your visa and prepare your immigrant visa package. Your passport with visa and this immigrant visa package are returned to your address in The Netherlands by registered mail. For this purpose you are to bring postage to your interview. You can bring stamps, or you can purchase a registered mail postage sticker with a tracking number, sufficient to mail 0-5 kilos of registered mail within The Netherlands. The sticker has our preferrence.

Well we went to the post office yesterday and asked for this 'sticker' they state on the website, the lady practically laughed at us and said its only valid for the day they issue it! so it would be silly to get it that day its useless on monday when we go for the interview! I'm not sure if they do the mail bags others have posted about but before we go on monday we'll have another stop at the post office and see what we can work out! If not I guess we'll have to resort to a buttload of stamps LOL
