Well, first let me say I'm glad you are OK!

Second let me say that you both made some pretty bad choices that night! You are very lucky that one of you or someone from the other cars were not seriously hurt. You mention that you were both tired after your day rafting. Why would you even attempt to drive home that night to be fresh for work when you should be fresh for driving home after a good nights sleep. You mentioned that it was raining when you left and also that you don't drive well at night or handle a 5-speed manual all that well. Why on earth would you drive and put both of you at risk. I'm not giving you a hard time because I think you are wonderful (I've followed your posts for a long time) but your actions were not very responsible. This is something that could easily have been avoided with a little common sense. I'm also curious if you drove a car while in Thailand or if your driving experience is only during your time in the U.S.. If you are a fairly new driver there is a chance that not only will your insurance rates go up but your insurance provider may also drop you.

Also, tell Bram NOT to let you drive on snow or ice. I KNOW you did not see that in Thailand.

Rich

LOL Rich, Thank you :) Yes.. i guess we made a bad chioce.. we could've sleep at my in-laws and wake up early to drive.. Bram know i dont like rain.. but when we switch it had stop raining for quite a while and i'd some sleep already. I told Bram that if i got tired again we'd stop and get soem sleep but we never got a chance to do that coz after i drove for like 15 mins then the rain came falling hard i couldnt see the anything outside and at that moment the car start fish tailing and lost control... It wasnt an excuse I know.. but with sudden rain while i was driving 70 mph it caused a hydroplane (spelling?) and i was in shock at that moment.

I drove his car before.. and i drove a 5 speed for 1 year 2 years ago.. i drove since i was 18 (i'm now 25)and never got any ticket or accident.. not even a small accident (both in Thailand and US) - I drove in Thailand (Bangkok) and drove in US everyday.I know i'm not 100% at night but I drove home (on the same road) in the night time before.. with this car too...- so i guess that's why Bram trust me to drive.. I know we made a bad choice and I'm so greatful nobody get hurt or i'd blame myself for that (i blame myself now!!).. And I know that we would be making a better- safest choice next time around

And Thankyou all for your concern.. i'm back to work today.. driving too.. Bram wants me to get back to normal asap so he make me come and drive to work lol.. Ican feel how stress i am on the road today.. not so bad as i thought... but a lot more sensitive to my surrounding.. and it's raining again today.. but at least it's a day time.. so there should be no problem for me driving home in a rain today (also back to my autometic car)

 Anya,

Thanks for not taking my post in the wrong way. We are like a family on here and we always want people we care about to be safe and healthy. You are certainly one of the highlights on this board and I check in regularly for the latest Anya-D story. Like my wife, I imagine you are a handful. Every day I come home from work I'm thankful my house has not yet burned down. Luckily my wife just breaks dishes, ruins the varnish on the table (from Thailand), fills the dishwasher up with regular dishwashing liquid and other mishaps. It's never boring with a Thai lady thats for SURE. You and my wife should really talk. I think you would be GREAT friends. Two peas in a pod!

June 25, 2005- well, yesterday- I was in Ashville visiting my In-laws and other relatives that drove here from Florida, we had a great time white water rafting until late. Bram and I decided that we need to drive home to Durham (about3 hrs drive) that night so we can wake up on our own bed and go to work the next day fresh. It was 10.30pm and pouring rain when we left Ashville. Bram was driving and I was resting so when he got tired I could drive…. Then about midnight I woke up and Bram was exhausted. Well, it was about almost half way and the sky clear up a little… I don’t do well driving at night – stressed out too much coz I have a not so good night vision (I don’t wear glasses) So I was so alert and prepared.. but it wasn’t enough…

About 10.30 we hit the shower rain.. I slowed down but it was like.. rain and stop.. then rain for few mins and stop again…so I wasn’t so nervous about it. We were driving BMW 530i and the car handle thing well… normally anyway. Suddenly after the clear sky there was a big sheet of rain and I couldn’t see a thing.. I started to fish tailing (that’s what it call isn’t it?) and because the car is 5 speed and I’m not used to it.. I lost control of the car (with Bram screaming “LET GO OF THE BREAK!!”) I did and we hit the rail, swirled from the road rail (left side) to and hit the right side with so much luck no car hit us during that time. We lost all the electricity in the car.. Cannot use emergency light, Bram screamed for me to get out of the car.. I was a total wreck and in shock and shaking.. I got my shoe and ran out of the car with nothing in hand.. Bram went back and got our dog that were still inside and he called 911.we don’t know where we were.. Our car is black and is half way in the road.. I-40 we were not hurt at all..and our dog were fine too. It was total dark, so cloudy and some rain – no light from any poster.. and our car is black…and we have NO WAY to let anybody see our car that was in the middle of the road!! There was some one stopped there car and asked if we were OK.. we were fine.. the car was fine..at that time anyway…Few cars passed – slow down and didn’t hit our car but didn’t stop either… then it came a light so fast down the road and just.. bang!! I couldn’t breath.. I felt that they are going to die with that hit..it’s so loud and our car start spinning again.. that vehicle skids like 500 feet to where the other car was parking .. Miracle.. just a minor injury.. They ran down and see if we were alright though.. They must have thought someone should be dead by now in our car.. luckily.. noone get hurts… Another minute gone by praying for the police to show up so they can do the road block so people can see our car… it started to rain again.. I was outside with the dog.. Bram is yelling to his cell phone.. then came flying another car.. this one not so bad..the driver saw our car and almost manage to pass but he hit the front of our car and skid to about the same place the first car was…it’s terrible..i cried – it was dark, wet and we have no way of letting anyone see our car… I pray that no big truck please.. I don’t want to have more accident!!. then the police came.. they block the whole interstate and clean up the mess… there were 6 ambulances and several fire trucks…we were in Mocksville.. a small town in the middle of Durham and Ashville..It’s miracle nobody got hurt – the guys in GMC (1st hit) they didn’t have their seat belt on I guess.. one got 18 stitches and both were able to walk away from the accident.. Everybody ran to our car and all they think was we were dead (the car is total wreck) and all we can say is we got out of the car before it got hit.. and the seat belt and the strength of the BMV car saved us…I managed to take some pictures…and it’s surprising that we hit the rail twice, got hit by 2 cars and our car look better of in a passengers compartment than the GMC…

Everybody there was so nice.. They took us to the hotel.. we had our dog so there not much choice to go but we went to Comfort Inn and they got us a room with a discount.. it was about 3.30am.. we were very exhausted but we couldn’t fall asleep. We managed to sleep for a few hours and got up at 7 to call the insurance company and car rental….

Now we are at home.. I’m exhausted but I couldn’t sleep.. too tired and still shock.. This is my first time in the accident and my first time got a ticket and it was a total wreck but it’s the best outcome ever.. nobody got hurts. Not bad anyway..Now everything is just a dream – a surreal dream and now it’s all over.. only missing a car and my insurance payment would be 100% higher… umm.. I just come with a BANG!

and the picture from the morning -

and the picture from the morning -

:blink: I hope you are fine now...that was a bad crash..

you were really lucky....

like others said: cars can be replaced but life NO.

oc

Yah. Easy for you to say. You didn't just lose a 5-series BMW :)

ahahahah  we problably try to get another one like this one.. we really like how it handle the accident. We got this car for a REALLY good deal so we dont think we can find one for the same price (we got it from a guy who lost his job.. so he needs to sell it and he sold it for half normal 2nd hand price with only about 18000 miles on it) and now everything on the market with the same thing in it cost twice as much... hope we get a good deal again!!! ;)

But you know.. i'd rather have to buy a new car than buying a coffin!! or a whealchair!!!!
