Honestly no one knows. Cairo is on it's own schedule. I used to call DOS twice/week though I don't know why because they rarely had information for me. I also would email Cairo once/week. If you do that eventually you'll find out something. Have you already had your interview?

i had my interview march 26th , the co told me visa was approved and she said it will take two or 3 weeks for them to send it , and she kept my passport , when i emailed cairo they said AP , and usual emails, i call state department and i'm sure they know everything but they are not authorized to tell us , i knew a lady she replies to my calls mostly and she gave me barely any info , but last time she was very cooperative and she said , nothing wrong with the case and shouldnt take too long , she said I look nice , i laughed and she said i can see you photo , so they have access to all data ,

normally sends you final officer review email before the visa is printed right? i didnt get this yet?

i'm very confused . they called me monday april 13th and asked about my travels to syria , jordan , i told them i went to syria and jordan for 10 days with my wife . they also asked about my visit to the UK , it was just 2 weeks ,

is this a good sign ?

It's just a waiting game now. I don't know why they tell people that it will take a couple weeks. From our experience

he had his interview and was issued his visa 4 months later. CO told him at that time would only be a couple weeks.

Wish I could offer you a "timeline" of how Cairo operates, but unfortunately it doesn't happen. There is usually always

an A/P that follows.

Just be patient and good luck!

Your travel to other ME countries is probably what they are checking. Syria isn't exactly our "best friend"....

I don't see it as "silly" at all..... There is very little difference between the K1 and K3 Visa's. Both require an AOS after arrival in the USA. I can see why the CR1 takes longer because the COMPLETE process is taking place at one time. Not the 2 part process of the K Visas. But as I recall you are doing the K3, not CR1.....

I believe I mentioned before that there is nothing "magical" about the fact you married in Egypt, that makes your relationship more "bona fide" than those who are waiting to marry in the USA and using the K1 process. If your wife was living there with you for several years prior to her filing for you, and you had a couple of kids during that time... that might give your marital status "weight" in the view of the Embassy/USCIS, but simply getting married in Egypt (not exactly rocket science since they removed the obstacle created by the US Embassy last year) doesn't prove much to the USCIS. The "risks" are the same to them whether you are married to her or not.

A young Egyptian man, travelling to Syria, Jordan, and the UK, (unless perhaps you have business ties that they could verify to these places that would explain your travel) is exactly what would concern them...

If you did a trip to Afghanistan/Pakistan/Iran as well, you'd be in AP until you're 50... Regardess of the fact that the UK is our closest ally, it's also full of "Islamic Radicals" and considered a "hotbed" of activity amoung "Muslim militants"... etc. etc.

The husband of one of my friends had to go through extra AP because he lived in KSA until he was 17. They had to go and do a background check in KSA rather than just evaluating his "history" inside Egypt, even though he's been back in Egypt for 8 years.... They probably wondered if he had been "radicalized" while living in KSA and then returned to Egypt to quietly wait to find a way to the USA...

It's a big problem for young Arab men, they practically give you a t-shirt that says "Potential Terrorist in Training".... be patient is my best advice....

but why did they keep my passport? i assume they studied my case before the interview

besides i mentioned in papers i went to jordan and syria plus UK , and by the way , every country is suspected there is terrorists everywhere.the co even didnt care when i told her we were there for fun , she didnt even want to see the stamps , it is very common to go those places for 10 days . even the US has many terrorists . they just have to ask about how long i stayed there , maybe because if i stayed there for more than 6 months i would have to provide police clearance. that what i think.

It's not unusual for Cairo to keep your passport. They DO and continue TO DO investigating

until they are satisified everything is fine. It's hard to wait, but, that's what you will have to do.

yes this is correct , i know that investigations are done by egyptians , thats why it is slow

I honestly believe they do little in the way of investigation at ALL before the interview. I think they wait to see if they can deny easily at the time of the interview before they begin to seriously process the paperwork. If they can't find anything OBVIOUS at the time of the interview to base a denial on, they might go ahead and keep the passport (still better than being told to take it with you).... but that only means they GUESS they will end up approving the petition...

It doesn't matter what she questioned you about at the interview. The CO didn't question my husband about his divorce but that was what they spent all of their time on in the AP period. And the subject came up AGAIN at our Adjustment of Status Interview THIS MONTH!!!!

They will not be doing the investigation of what you did in Jordon, Syria, and the UK in Cairo... they will let their colleagues in those places give them the info they want... (if that is what they are focusing on)... And it won't be done by Egyptians either.... They use Egyptians for investigations INSIDE Egypt (like the sneaky man they sent to harass my poor elderly mother-in-law....)

Doesn't matter if there are terrorists everywhere on earth... they are looking at YOUR background and my guess is that there are not MANY Egyptians with the financial resources to take multiple "holiday trips" to far away places... especially if you did them over a short period of time...

How did you get a Visa to the UK???? I didn't think it was easy for Egyptians to get a visa to ANY European country... My husband couldn't get a Visa to join me in Dubai!

If you are obviously wealthy then maybe they are ungrounded in their suspicions... heck they may be ungrounded for MANY reasons... but they make the rules, not us. Never forget that. In fact best to chill out and act really calm THROUGH THIS ENTIRE PROCESS... Because they hold your future with your wife in this country in their hands... and they can (if they chose to) make it MUCH more difficult for you....

My husband was surprised when he got here and discovered government offices here are very similar to the government offices in Egypt... he somehow thought things here were fast and highly efficient.. This was just ONE of the MANY misconceptions he had about the USA... (Too many Hollywood movies in Egypt that make Egyptians think they are watching real life in the USA)

Hang in there and try not to drive the people at the Embassy insane... they can make it slower if they want to.... They are in the driver's seat so to speak...

Complain to US, but be smooth as silk and sweet as honey with THEM....

KHPerfectMatch (F) Hope you are doing well!

My BIL is 19 and so far he's been to Spain, England and Holland. He's able to travel because there are three brothers (one in the military) and its been for work (dancing shows he does) however, they denied him a VISA to the US. Go figure.

samy, would you mind sharing your interview experience at the embassy in Cairo? My husband is freaking out about it already, and it's not even scheduled yet... what kind of questions did they ask, how long did the actual interview take, how did the CO treat you, etc?
