Buying an airline ticket for K-1 entry

Today I was planning on buying my fiancee's ticket to come here. I noted in my preliminary airfare research that it's about $250 cheaper to get a roundtrip ticket than it is a one way. Not surprising, most airlines are like this. My plan was simply to a buy a roundtrip ticket for my fiancee and not use the return leg. However, she has told me this morning that she thought I would only be allowed to buy a one-way ticket for her entry on K-1.

Does anyone know about this? It seems silly that they would deny her entry based on a roundtrip ticket, after all, there's nothing to stop her from buying a ticket to go home anytime she wants. But with the U.S. Government, nothing would surprise me.

Buy the cheapest ticket. I've never heard of it being a problem.

I found some other posts on the subject. It seems most people say it's not a problem to buy a roundtrip ticket. :-)

I keep hearing of how a round trip ticket is cheaper but have never managed to find anything like that on sites like Expedia. For instance, the last I checked, a one way from here to US was 700 USD while a roundtrip was 1400 USD. Its actually cheaper to fly from there to here than it is from here to there. His flight here only cost 1000 USD. We have to pay alot from to fly from here to there.

I don't know, it could just be the cities you're flying between and/or the airline as well. I've generally found roundtrip to indeed be cheaper than one-way, and it's what I found this time as well. It ended up being almost $400 cheaper to go with RT versus one-way. I clearly went with a RT ticket.

Hey, some information as I have been trying to maximize the ole purchasing power. Orbitz has the best flight prices. I've checked many other places. Second, play around with dates. Thursday through Sunday are the most expensive and most weekends are impossible. Mondays can be very cheap. Wednesday is the best. Always purchase at least two months in advance and be sure to look at what flights are available as you can end up with lay overs that last what may seem years. A search on how to find the cheapest flight will yield much of the info I have given and then some.

One last thing, flights into various airports can save you much money. Try a flight that goes to a major hub like Dulles International, O'Hare or LA and spend a few hours driving there to meet. I saved some $400 to $700 by willing to drive 3 hours to DC and I used the excess saved to buy a flight to meet my fiancee' at her POE and fly back together.

One way is cheaper, regardless. That applies to all but first class.
