One thing's for sure--I'm sure Jack doesn't really care that we hijacked his thread. In fact, I think it's the furthest thing from his mind. Congratulations once again Jack and Xuan!

I do not care at all. Every time I read this thread I learn more. From my point of view, any thing and everything is fine with me.

Man I love mangosteen! mangosteen.jpg

My wife just got 8 of them and I just ate it all in one sitting. This is one of the fruits I'll miss in Vietnam whenever my wife and I leave here.

YUM YUM, I ate this fruit everynight after dinner. This is the only FRUITS I love to eat in VN. I wonder how much it costs for 1 kg now? It usually cost 18,000 dong/kg, but my wife bargain down to 9,000 dong/kg.

I believe this mangosteen came from Thai Land, because it's very cheap over there.

They actually come from Indonesia, but in Thailand they are bigger and sweeter than Vietnam so most places in vietnam import mangosteen and other fruits from thailand.

Another fruit I love is Rambutan (Chom Chom baby!!):rambutan1.jpg

Man they are good too, they just started the season.

Man Dai_VN! you're living there for a long time now, i guess you're pretty good with all the fruit seasons. I'm coming to visit my wife on June 11th. I'm so excited. I heard about the fruit season and my mouth is all watery. hahah Can you tell me what season is around June? I remember when I left vn on Oct 29th and it was the beginning of "vu sua" season and it cost like 70,000d a kg. My wife was searching all over the city but couldn't find any and this is the only place that have it (man i was so shy to see my wife bargain for the fruit. hahahah she said that's how you shop around here!). About 2 months later, she said that it's available every where now and it's like 20,000d a kg. hahah When I come back this year on June, hopefully there are some good fruit for me to devour.

I don't know the season that well, my wife just tells me what season it is. June during summertime is the season for all good fruits, so you could have yourself a fruit buffet whenever you get here.

They actually have mangosteen here in the state but do you want to spend that much money to try them? I think it's imported but it cost so much though and you don't even know if they're all good fruit or not. I've seen it at the market and it's hella expensive.

Hey does anybody know what the English name for a particular fruit is? It seems like it's related to a grapefruit, but there are no little segments--it comes apart more like an orange. It's yellow in color, and there's a LOT of bio-mass waste. You throw away way more than you eat. I've eaten just a ton of that fruit in Vietnam. I don't particularly enjoy it all that much, it just gets shoved in my face. It's rather tasteless to me. I refer to it personally as "crunchy water." Kind of like the fruit version of Iceberg lettuce. Anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

BTW, I like the Mangosteen also. I had no idea what it was called. I also really like lychees, but they're not in season for too long.
