After reading everything I can find under the sun and getting countless information and help from all you wonderful wonderful people. (yes, wonderful twice) I have comprised 3 check lists referring to the stages that we will undertake. If you could please let me know if I am possibly missing something or have something incorrectly it would be greatly appreciated.

Looks good, some minor additions

For the DS-230 you do NOT sign part 2.

Make sure your birth certificate is the long form, showing your parents' names. Some only go with the standard short one but I hear they can ask for the long form at the interview. Remember at the interview you also need to bring your interview letter.

Good luck.

Yes Birth certificate should be the long form one (it has your parents info on the birth certificate)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi - just a couple of things of the top of my head

- For the DS-230 - you will want to include the original police certificate - not a photo copy.

- When you apply in Calgary you will need proof of your Husband's long term residency in Canada - provincial driver's license, health care card etc.

- They may ask in Calgary, they will ask in Montreal (the interview will definately be in Montreal - all IR1/CR1 interviews are held there) - for proof of your Husband's legal status in Canada (PR Card, copy of visa, whatever applies to him).

- Tax returns - did your Husband's Mother file separately? If she filed a joint return with anyone you will need to bring proof of her individual income (I don't know if you are using IRS transcripts or just the 1040 with slips, if it's the 1040 with slips this doesn't apply, of course)

Also, for the DS-230 package - have you addressed 'proof of domicile' in the U.S. for your Husband at all?

- $355 to file - U.S. dollars. I know Calgary will take a credit card for a U.S. passport, not sure how they want to be paid for filing an I-130, so you may want to take U.S. cash.

One other thing, I'm not sure about DCF, not sure if they take your original documents and forward them to Montreal with your forms (I-864 and DS-230).

If so, no need to get an additional original to take to the interview and if not, well then it would be a good idea.

Thank you so much for all the input.

Couple of things I suppose I missed out was the payment. lol I was hoping they would do it all for free! *pout* I've adjusted my lists and do have all the things mentioned, just overlooked writing down that I actually needed them.

I was planning on carrying everything with me at all times so I would be prepared no matter what.

I am hoping we can send the package out immediately after we finish in Calgary. One week away though! =)

Looks good!

As for the Calgary consulate, don't know if you are familiar with Calgary - but it is right downtown. If you are staying downtown you might want to walk from your hotel or take a taxi, parking is expensive and can be difficult to navigate with all the one way streets.

At the consulate, you line up downstairs (inside) - you can't bring any electronic devices, no car remotes, cell phones etc - if you want to take those with you there is a kiosk in the same hallway, they will charge you around $5 a piece to check an item.

Couple of coffee shops there too.

Good luck and if you get a woman named Carolyn at the consulate, tell her I said hi

Oh just thought of one other thing with parking.

If you are driving, you might want to park at city hall. You can walk right to the consulate, which is basically across the street (next block), via the walkway system and never have to go outside!

And one more thing! Just reading Reeena's post about her interview etc.

She mentioned the $355 U.S. dollar fee she had to pay in Montreal (she did DCF as well) - so that's something to keep in mind for the day of the interview in Montreal.

Immigrant visa application processing fee (non-refundable, per person), Form DS-230 : $355.00 link
