How do you deal with your Strong Willed Child?

Have you talked to your daughter about why she's acting like that in class? Maybe she has a reason (valid or not) for acting like that. I'd try talking to her about it first and see what she says. Because no matter how much you talk to the teacher, if you don't know the real source of the problem in your daughter's eyes, it will continue.

Definatly get her out of that class. I had some problems when my daughter was in first grade, my daughter wanted to be the teacher ( ha the memories she is now 19 ). I had her tested and was suprised to see her IQ was a full scale of 157. I went ahead and enrolled her in the gifted program through the public schools ( she was in a private scholl then ) and she was an outstanding student until her will once again took over. She is so talented however she chooses to work at fudruckers rather than going to college ( which I have paid for 120 credits ). All I try to do is support her, be careful cause this one teacher may have an impact on your child. Get her out of that class ASAP.

If not for strong willed children the world would would not be where it is today IMHO.

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

It seems that it is just this one teacher. You say your daughter behaves well at home and when out in public, even in her math class, so maybe it is the way the teacher controls her classroom.

Yes, she does behaves well with math teacher. Anyway, my husband is pissed off so he sent fax to my daughter's principal for IEP(Individualized Education Program)evaluation. Now, we are waiting for the appointment.

I have one. She behaves well in public places and at home but at school she make her English teacher nuts. Sometime, she ignore her teacher constantly if she is force to do her classroom work she don't do it right. I received frequent phone calls because of her behavior. My spouse and I had meeting with her teacher for few times, and talked about how to deal with my daughter but this teacher refused to follow our instructions which doesn't involved torture or hurting her physically. On the other hand, her Math teacher told me that she behave fine with her. For her age, she is fast though but her behavior affects her academic performance. :(

Parents with strong willed children please share your experience how to battle with this type of child. I just purchased book on online but I'm not sure if it's worth to invest on this?

I'd recommend looking into enrolling her in a Montessori school. Some children just do not do well in a traditional classroom, but can thrive in a different setting. How old is she?

She is young 5 years old. She is gonna be in first grade this Fall Session 2009. I'll check Mentessori school around Fresno. Thanks for the recommendation.

Maybe it's part of her experiment. Wow that's real great 157 IQ. Anyway, I'm going to after IEP evaluation.

I asked my daughter about her teacher. She answered me "no" to all of my negative questions. So, I told my daughter, your teacher seems nice teacher. She was quiet and smiling at me. :bonk:
