so i'm picking dima up from jfk on monday evening. if he was a girl and i was a guy---i'd bring flowers or something to greet my SO; however, what the hell does a girl do for a guy?

i'm baking him a coconut cake (he loves coconut) and getting a bottle of veuve clicquot (we drank a bottle of this that i got from the cellars in france for his bday last year) for when we get to the house, but what could i present at the airport for a man who just left his whole world for me?

suggestions anyone?

I would say a peek at your sexy underthings would do the trick!

As a guy, I don't think I've ever really expected anything from a lady I'm heading off to meet somewhere. That's my job as the guy, even if I'm coming to her. (I bet he still has something for you, even though he's the one arriving.) If you already have the wine waiting, there's not a whole lot else that he should expect. Well, other than the peek at the sexy underthings, of course!

Honestly, the best present you could give him is, yourself.

Seriously. After traveling for about 27 hours (layovers at airports, fly time), nothing would make me happier than to see the woman I love waiting for me.

I am sure a strong hug, many smiles, and maybe sneak a passionate kiss in the terminal would do wonders for him :)

Most guys there don't seem offended by flowers, but I don't think they get anywhere near as excited as girls do (obviously) about them. I suggest a bottle of whatever he drinks and **ahem** that special attention. Congratulations, by the way.

the city i live in has free esl. he started today and he's shocked by the plethora of mexicans and puerto ricans and his classmates are fascinated by him. no one has ever heard of belarus. we went to verizon to get an international phone plan and the printout showed belarus as being in africa on the map. geniuses abound.

He did wear a respirator, right?

(And switching straight from redneck bigot to ignoramus americnaus) Bela, what? You mean that's not in Africa? I thought Africa was right next to Russia.

I wonder if that whole Verizon network goes to Africa as well. Now there's a funn commercial - "Can you boomp bomp click pop ngwapta ooga me now?" (Very poorly done ethnic, racial and national jokes all in one post. Way to go, Slim!)

Maybe they got Botswana and Belarus mixed up. It is an easy mistake the countries both start with the letter "B". And no one knows where either one of them is. Maybe they hired some beauty pageant gals from SC to put the map together?

I am curious how the GF will answer the question. I think it is just easier to say Russia.

Most folks I've met who were born prior to '91 say Russia, regardless of which country they're actually from. Once you prove you know the difference between Belarus and Botswana, then they start to split hairs. "Well, actually I was born in Soviet Union but it was country Lithuania and my parents both Russian. I'm Jewish too so really that makes me not Russian at all but since I'm from there and spoke Russian all the time too, along with Lithuanian and even some Yiddish, I can just say Russian." (That was the excerpt of a fireside chat with my Jewish/Russian/Lithuanian/American/Canadian ex-neighbor. He now speaks a little French too since he lives so close to Quebec. Who knows what he tells them. "So I'm moving here from United States, but before I was in Red Army and......."
