[That's not true according to my cousin that lived and worked in China during the SARS epidemic. Passengers on international flights are scrutinized and people with signs of illness are quarantined.

But if you wish to live with your illusions and delusions you are welcome to it. Just don't try to get me to buy into it.

Agricultural products or not...diseases are spread by failure to contain them. People jumping over fences or floating over on innertubes across our border with pockets full of counterfeit, stolen, or fraudulent ID are bad policy no matter how you folks want to slice it and dice it.

What delusions would those be? The one's where you are convinced that every flight between Mexico and the US is being scrutinized for signs of flu in the passengers? The ones, including the US citizens who sneeze are being quarantined? Oh, that would be YOUR delusion

The illegal population may be guilty of many things, but being the sole culprits in this, or any other flu born epidemic are not one of them. Your paranoia is showing, again.

I can verify that during the SARS epedemic that all flights going into and coming out of China were screened. When I landed in Shanghai in July of '03 there were techs dressed in bio suits that came onto the plane before they would let us off. Everyone had their temp checked and were observed for signs of SARS. At every public area they had thermal cameras that everyone had to pass in front of before entering. To check into a hotel I had to have blood tests, X-Rays and my temp taken at a hospital before they would let me check in. They even stopped traffic and did random temp checks upon entering cities. Anyone that they had any doubts about were sent to quarintine. I almost ended up in a SARS hospital because my white blood cell count was high. It was only after I pitched a screaming fit did they allow me to go to a better hospital to have the tests repeated. It turned out all I had was a cold.

I am not saying that this is or should happen for people entering from Mexico but I can sure tell you the Chinese were serious about SARS. If this gets bad enough I am sure we could do the same. People forget that the Spanish flu in 1912 killed more people than WW1 did.

Indeed people do. However, there are currently no restriction on travel between the US and Mexico therefore the illiegal immigrant crossing the borders on an inner tube is a very, very red herring.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Supposedly the most common way that flu gets transmitted is from touching things that other people have touched (door handles etc).

Especially if they're brown. Watch out for those brown door knobs.

What the flock is with the obsession with brown skin??

Actually, Hong Kong was serious about SARS, but mainland China was way late on the scene. Beijing had its head up its collective #### for months; they were far less concerned about peoples' lives than they were about "saving face," so they tried to keep secret the fact that people were dropping like flies from an unknown disease that Beijing wasn't equipped to handle. They wouldn't allow news stations to mention SARS, and they blocked texting once they found out that people were using that method to get information about SARS from the outside world. If they had been open about it from the beginning (in early winter 2002) and asked for international help early on, SARS could potentially have been wiped out before it spread like wildfire. Hong Kong took a far more no-nonsense approach to fighting SARS, including quarantines and and innovations like temperature sensors in POEs. By the time mainland China only started using its head and behaving sensibly, it was too late to eradicate SARS, which now is endemic. Political stupidity can be lethal.

Btw, the Spanish Flu pandemic started in 1918 and ended in 1920.

The only virus infecting Mexico is called corruption virus! Due to drug business!

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A deadly strain of swine flu never seen before has killed as many as 61 people in Mexico and has spread into the United States, where several people were reported ill.

Mexico's government said on Friday that at least 16 people have died of the disease in central Mexico and that it may also have been responsible for 45 other deaths.

The World Health Organization said the virus that killed at least 12 of the victims in Mexico had the same genetic structure as an outbreak discovered in California.

With the swine flu being passed between people, raising fears of a major outbreak in North America, Mexico's government canceled classes for millions of children in its sprawling capital city and surrounding areas.

"It is a virus that mutated from pigs and then at some point was transmitted to humans," Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova said.

It first looked mostly like a swine virus but closer analysis showed it is a never-before-seen mixture of swine, human and avian viruses.

...

The White House was closely following the new cases in the United States and Mexico, and President Barack Obama has been informed, an administration official said.

The Mexican government warned people not to shake hands or kiss when greeting or share food, glasses or cutlery for fear of contracting the flu.

Mexico City, one of the world's biggest cities and home to some 20 million people, was quieter than usual on Friday morning. Normally choking traffic was less chaotic in the absence of school buses and parents driving kids to school.

Many people waiting to enter subway stations had their faces covered with surgical masks.

Yes, since the people bringing this disease to the US and Canada are US and Canadians who traveled to Mexico...

What does that have to do with the OP?
