Hi there,

In another forum people claim that I need another medical and bunch of vaccines to be able to naturalize. I cannot find any information about this on USCIS.gov - so is it even true?

If yes, could you provide links to the instructions and possibly vaccine waiver websites?

Thanks! Happy Friday!

No vaccinations, no medical for naturalization. All you have do to is biometrics (fingerprinting & name/background check) and pass the interview/civics test. It's really no big deal compared to what you had to in order to get your greencard.

Good luck!

P.S. I see that you're German. I'm sure you're aware that you will lose your German citizenship if you acquire another citizenship and don't have a "Beibehaltungsgenehmigung" by the German government? Just wanted to mention it, since some Germans are not aware of that, others don't care. Either way, thought it might be good info to have.

Sure recall the I-693 for the AOS, was a rather expensive piece of paper as the medical expense was out of pocket, but at least they had that and it's history for the N-400.

But they also had our complete histories, FBI checks, proof we were free to marry, copies of our divorces, and a ton of evidence that we were financially dependent on each other for the I-751. They wanted all that stuff again for the N-400. Even sent in a copy of our latest tax return, joint purchases since they were dragging their feet on the I-751 so everything was up to date. Had to send that again for the N-400. Didn't sent anything new for the N-400 they already had.

Just commented to my wife, maybe they thought we got her ten year green card out of a Cracker Jack box.

Don't think it's true, at least not that I've ever heard of. Could you please post that link to the other forum where people claim? So I can read it myself to understand what are they saying. Thanks!

O.k., it's actually two words:

Beibehaltung = preservation (of your German citizenship)

Genehmigung = approval, permission

So it is an approval by the German government that you can keep your German citizenship if you acquire another citizenship.

Thanks! I know about the Beibehaltungsgenehmigung, I'll take care of it in June (I'll be eligible for N-400 this December). That should be plenty of time for the German government to work on my case....

The issue was brought up at mothering.com in the forums. They got me all scared as I would strongly refuse Gardasil shots and more chickenpox shots!!!!

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends Gardasil for all girls ages 11 or 12 years old. The vaccine is also recommended in girls and women ages 13 through 26 years old who have not already received the vaccine or have not completed all booster shots. Gardasil should not be used in place of having a routine pelvic exam and Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer.

You may receive Gardasil even if you have already had genital warts, or had a positive HPV test or abnormal pap smear in the past. However, Gardasil will not treat active genital warts or HPV-related cancers, and it will not cure HPV infection. You may feel faint after receiving this vaccine, especially within the first 15 minutes after injection.

Becoming infected with HPV is much more dangerous to your health than receiving the vaccine to protect against it. However, like any medicine, Gardasil can cause side effects but the risk of serious side effects is extremely low.

Gardasil will not protect against sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, HIV, syphilis, and trichomoniasis."

Not to get into a discussion about the benefits of certain vaccinations, and in particular, certain vaccinations you only need once with maybe some boosters. It's becoming more and more important to keep a record of all the shots you have received over your life time so you don't have to take them again. Fortunately my wife kept these records for her and her daughter so only were required to get a couple of shots when they came here. It's not only a question of immigration, but a question of your own health.

Was in a bit of dismay when I first looked at the I-693 and the USCIS approved doctor list, contacted several, and some really wanted to get carried away with many extra tests with a price tag going into thousands of dollars that was an out of pocket expense. And even more ironic, if a person had every communicable disease known to mankind, would still not be rejected on the basis of the I-693 as long as they agreed to counseling.

We did have a go around with TB since my wife and daughter were vaccinated for life, our doctors here never heard of it and really got into a debate about that scratch test, not only TB, but the vaccination, but had to pay extra for x-rays to make sure their lungs were clear, that got through immigration okay. But as my wife was working at a hospital, they insisted she take that medication for nine months with strong concerns about it causing liver damage. But she survived. The scratch test is highly debatable as can be an allegic reaction, and whoever looks at it can be very biased. Even brought in color photos of an acturate scale as to how to read them, but a losing battle with hard heads. Since then, our AMA finally adopted a new far more accurate blood test, wife never had TB and is not a carrier. Her scratch test just showed a small 5 mm sore, but can't argue with a hard head. Doctors can't even agree on how long after receiving a TB vaccination how long they are good for.

But all that was history with immigration during the AOS phase, subject was completely dropped after that with immigration, but our concern with our own health has not. But have to say, immigration was a very humiliating experience when treated like a kid, by mostly incompetent kids. Spoiled brat kind of kids at that.
