Funny question about Royal Mail...

So as most of you may know, we are awaiting my fiance's passport from the UKBA. My fiance sent a pre-paid Special Delivery Next Day envelope along with his application for the return of his passport and documents. Now, the UKBA customer service is not helpful at all in terms of telling us anything in terms of what has been dispatched and when...so my fiance decided to track the # on his envelope that he sent with his application. We have been tracking it since yesterday (assuming it was sent out yesterday) and this is the message we get:

It's on its way

Your item with reference XXXXXXXXXXXGB is currently progressing through our network.

Your item is currently progressing through our network for delivery.

To check your item's progress please come back later.

So does this mean that the envelope was actually used and is really on its way for delivery?

The reason we ask is because my fiance was worrying about whether the UKBA has actually used his envelope or not. I was explaining to him that the message we get when we enter the tracking # means that yes, the UKBA has used the envelope. My fiance was wondering whether the above message is a standard message that shows up once you BUY a traceable envelope--whether it is actually being used or not does not matter. He was asking about whether the envelope is scanned when one purchases it so then it is put in the system since then. I was saying that the tracking # is NOT entered into the Royal Mail system at the time of purchasing the envelope, but it is entered in the system once the envelope is actually used and sent through Royal Mail.

Am I correct in saying this?

If I am correct, that means that for sure the envelope should be in today by 1:00 PM since the envelope is for Special Delivery Next Day.

Anyone that can reassure us would be a tremendous comfort! We are all nerves until the passport shows its face to my fiance!

Visa Journey completed, but we are still here to provide support! :)

Oh no not more worry!! Why doesn't your fiance pop into a post office today & ask how the pre paid system works? They would know for sure.

Also this is the number for customer service in the UK. There isn't an international number 08457 740740.

Hope this helps & you get your passport soon.

I have seen that before on items I have tracked with Royal Mail. I don't think its been updated as of yet so its just a matter of checking again later.

That means your package is a depot waiting to be delivered.

Oh dear...it seems like we are in a predicament...the envelope is for Next Day Special Delivery and this is the message we are getting since all day yesterday and all day today that it is "on its way".

Yeah, that is exactly what describes me: a quivering puddle of frustration (and anger towards the UK Home Office).

But we are keeping strong and hoping for the best! There is always tomorrow and Monday for the passport to show up, whatever happens, we are going to deal with it stronger than before!
