Importance of Tax return

I am wondering if people can give me an indication of how important the tax returns are for proof of income, and what else is considered. The income is not a problem for me, but last year I was living in China, so my income for that year was much lower. I can show previous tax returns and proof of current income.

Did you file a return for last year and declare the foreign income???

Shouldnt be a problem if you filed.

Tax returns can be quite important for the self-employed.

For the rest of us, they may (or may not) be a good indication of the sustainability of current income. You might want to provide 3 years of tax returns rather than 1 if it will make your income history look better.
