K1 Waiting Times

Hey All...

I've been reading quite a bit on this website, and now is my turn to ask a few questions:

My fiance and I met while both living and working in Dubai. Unfortunatley, due to the economic situtation, he lost his job and returned to the US in March 09 to a great job. Our K1 application was submitted on the 8th of April, notice of application received today. Questions are:

1. We submitted to the Vermont service centre. What have other members experienced in terms of the waiting time for the approval of their K1 petition?

2. How long after the K1 petition (NOA2) has been approved does one receive the package from the embassy?

3. Is it worthwhile to have my fiance present at the interview? Is there anyone here from South Africa, living in the UAE, with a fiance from the US?

Thanks a bunch...

1)http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...&page=times

2) embassy specific answer needed

3) better question might be simply people who use UAE... filtering down to SA would be quite restrictive

YMMV

hi Jeli....

check my timeline below, you can roughly measure from our dates. don't be surprise if the packet 3/4 is received by your SO in US....it appears that this is the AD,UAE procedure, nothing to be mailed to them ahead of the interview date such as the so called DS230 Part1. I've considerably asked co-vjs experience here in UAE and convinced that they are right. First, they went through the actual process and althou due to different months and/or year of application, it can vary but not unless if you are close enough with each others timelines ....which is the case and since its my turn, the same procedure is where am heading so far.

thankfully we got a surprise 33 days NOA2 and we now have interview date on June which came along with the packet 3/4 combined and was sent to USC instead of me (the beneficiary) so am still waiting the packet. (my SO has scanned the basic instructions to me anyway)

Goodluck to you....

i shall be sharing it to you our journey.... same as i hope u dont mind if a dropby to you for inquiries as well.

hey i like P.E. in SA :star:

Hi JSVP,

thanks so much for your reply... Please help me with a few abreviations you used here :-) I'm a tad confused, and obviously a newby.

Did you apply for Abu Dhabi or Dubai? Mine is for Dubai...

How many different packets do we get? We recieved the NOA1, nothing else yet. What is packet3/4?? Is this packet 3 and 4 or packet 3 of 4?

What is my SO?

33 days for NOA2!!! How fantastic is that. Congrats. You must be so relieved... Where are you and where is your fiance?

I would be very if not extremely happy, if you share your journey with me, and so will I. This is a long process, and an emotional one at that too, so please please, would be great.

Maybe I know some stuff you don't either, and can help along the line...

All the best... hear from you soon. x

PS: Great that you have been to PE.... The Cape/Eastern Cape/Garden Route is such a beautiful place.

hey i like P.E. in SA :star:

First one: Iam a resident of Dubai so according to the USEM AD website i should fall for the Dubai US Consul unfortunately and fortunately I didn't read the website before submission of our K1 (i referred more on VJ from co-vj's actual process)... Now, when we received the NOA2 i religiously read/search more up to the point of reading thoroughly both the US AD and Dxb consulates which got me sick worried when i learned that only AD residents and immigrant visa applications should be process in AD and the rest of the states should fall under USEM Dubai... whooops! we're dead...... or so i thought..... so i posted Q & A here about it... wanting to make sure which is the correct USEM should i got to... well...iam finally convinced by Beejay (i call my mentor here) that iam using the correct USEM which is AD eventhou iam a resident of Dxb (btw, they do accept it anyway except that it said to slows the process if you arent AD resident) and it has been said that while K1 is non-immigrant visa, AD consul treats it as immigrant hence the added reason why its ok to apply visa there under K1.... so that has been ok.

Now, u said you have applied via USEM Dubai UAE which according to my understanding of their website- that is correct too. Anyway, if its not- am sure they will re-direct you to AD if ever.

Second: SO means significant other (term use here in vj) :star:

After NOA1, just wait for the NOA2...usually the average waiting period is 6 months- at least thats what we have prepared ourselves for but we surprisingly got 33 days NOA2. With this, you never know u may get it as quick as ours so i suggest start gathering your additional documents to be use after NOA2 ..because due to the this unexpected NOA2 in a short time, it threw us off a lil by frantically collecting now our other docs needed to meet the interview schedule which is on June. however, pls be reminded that your I129F is in VSC and we are from CSC.

Normally, after NOA2- we receive the so called Packet 3 containing DS230 form to be filled out and sent back to USEM...they will reply back with the packet 4 containing the interview schedule and medical instructions...........but it appears that it is consulate to consulate basis. The procedure here in UAE (at least in AD) is not like the majority. I received my packet3/4 in one mail which has been sent to my SO (the petitioner). He has already mailed it to me here so i shall be having my medical soonest i get the original forms. Nothing to be sent ahead. All the papers mailed to me are to be filled out and bring on the interview date. Whew  ..jitters...

Feel free to pm me and check the one name "beejay"- this couple have been through UAE too just last year so they have been very helpful. i call them my mentors, perhaps you can inquire from them too. Owing to few filers in UAE of K1, iam just so glad to hear from anyone and be of help too if i can.

ops! id love to see SA but i havent been there- seen lots of pix and stories from my ex -date .... :P

Hi there again!!

So happy for you that eventhough you by accident applied for the wrong consulate/embassy, it all worked out just fine.. How lucky are you. And 33 days. I could still only hope and pray for that... let's see. I'm positive...

We applied for ours with a lawyer/visa help firm in the US, and eventhough they are very good for the petition submission I am not sure they are that good for my processing, that is why I am very very very worried.

Firstly, I am now totally confused about how many packages arrive... what is what?

Secondly, I might be visiting my fiance when the package arrives - what to do then?

What additional documents do you need - Police clearances from all countries lived in, birth certificates, what else??

Do you think it makes a big difference that your I129F is in VSC and yours CSC? Is CSC faster?

What is the DS230?

Thanks a big bunch for helping me here... after this I will be an expert and hopefully carry my knowledge forward and help someone else :)

I still need to find my way around this website... It's really helpful...

i have sent you PM. Yes, you need original birth certificate and police certificate from your country (SA) and every country that you have lived for at least 6 months and above. Check the list of unobtainable police certificates of some countries too. :star:
