NOA question

Does the NOA have an expiry date? I have just moved to Louisiana (stupid military!) and my DL from Arizona is due to expire when my 2 year card does. I'm due to apply for removal of conditions this year and the woman at the Louisiana DMV told me that they will not issue me a license unless I have something with an expiry date! I explained the process and told her it could be up to a year before I actually get my next greencard but she insisted that if I don't have anything with an expiry date, they wouldn't be able to give me a license! Has anyone else had experiance with Louisiana? I think I will die slowly if I can't drive for up to a year. We have just moved on base and I NEED to drive to go anywhere at all!! Thanks

After filing I-751 you will recieve NOA 1 year extension letter of your green card- and this letter will expire next year of your 2 year Green card issue date

NOA will say "your GC is extended one year from the GC expiration date". So if you've just met an idiot that doesn't understand English or doesn't know what is "extended one year" means, here are your options:

(1) go back to the DMV or go to a different DMV, try your luck to see if you can find a non-idiot that works in a government agency. If necessary, be calm and polite, request to talk to a supervisor or manager.

(2) make an infopass, tell them the idiots at DMV said they must want to see something with an expiry date and you'll need an I-551 stamp (from USCIS) on your current valid unexpired foreign passport. The IO that stamp your passport would usually hand write the stamp expiry date.

There's an advantage if you do option 2, just in case you lose the NOA, or somehow it's damaged beyond recognition, like it got wet by accident, you will still have a stamp to prove your legal status. Also you can show that stamp to your employer instead of the NOA, before DHS update the I-9 instructions, only the I-551 stamp can prove your status is still legal after your GC expired, but recently they updated the I-9 instructions, employers now must accept the NOA as well but the update just came out really recently, so most HR departments are still getting detail explanation for "what the heck is NOA" from DHS.

Schedule for an infopass online. Get an I-551 stamp at your local USCIS office. The stamp would have an expiry date, your PR status extends for a year.
