Forms and taxes for interview

I was looking at some of these comments and the papers that are required for Ghana.

How come one has to fill out the DS 156(which is the non immigrant visa application) and the DS 230 application which is the Immigrant Visa. Arent they like 2 different things? Why does Ghana want a non immigrant and an immigrant form.?

That’s confusing..

How many copies of the Ds156 and the 156K are needed? Im asking because in the directions it says that it should be completed in duplicate. So how many copies should be filled out of each form?

I also read that the 230 should not be signed until you get to the embassy. The same applies to the 156 as well right? They have that line that says “ do not sign below this line”

Do you have to submit another G325 when you go for the interview? Someone posted that it was a form you have to take.

What is FC 029 – i saw it listed on someones page..

Taxes: is it better to do the tax transcript or BOTH: tax transcript and actual copy of taxes that were completed. Should i start asking for it now--how long does it take and what the site to get it.

What in the world does the embassy do with all this info? Doesn’t it make you nervous that some strangers have all your info? And people wonder why identity theft is occurring—this is just too much info, I think, personally.

There is so much data-- yikes,... didnt someone also say that we need to submit a new letter of itent to marry for the interview-- im pretty sure i read that somewhere last week.

I might go to Gh this summer, so if I go I want to have EVERYTHING filled out on my part so that i know when the interview day rolls around, he will be good to good.

Do u think its a good idea to buy a tix around the interview data so that the embassy wont beat around the bush with the interview-- or will they not care that you have a tix, on one of these forms ,like the supplemental, i saw a part that said," do you have any special arrangements, like a ticket, if so, attach a copy of itinerary, plane, etc."

Can the people who have recently gone to the Ghana embassy, or about to go in the following months, make sure they tell us EXACTLY what forms you took with you? I read somewhere that like 6-7 forms were needed? Do they really need all those forms. Or were all those forms suggested because you never know what wil be asked for.

The K1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa with intent to immigrate. For that reason it is treated as an immigrant visa and processed as such at all consulates.

I believe the number of copies needed will be on the form. I think it is one copy of each but read the instructions.

I also read that the 230 should not be signed until you get to the embassy. The same applies to the 156 as well right? They have that line that says " do not sign below this line"

Every from needs to be signed except for the DS 230. That one needs to be signed in front of the CO. These instructions are on the forms.

The G-325A is needed at the petition stage. Once again, its in the instructions.

It is no longer used.

Pick one or the other. Tax transcripts are better because you do not need to provide W2s or 1099s. If you submit tax returns you need to include all that info. Whether you like it or not, this is the info that they want. IT helps establish that the intending immigrant is not going to become a public charge and that you are going to support your SO while they are here. If you feel uncomfortable you can scratch of your SSN and other identifying information. It is what they require to issue the visa. If you do not provide it then no visa. Many have done it with no problems so no need to worry about it.

You can order your tax transcripts from the IRS for free (www.irs.gov ). It took about 10 days.

Yes, you need to provide an updated letter of intent to marry at interview time.

DO NOT BUY THE TICKETS!

Even if you have tickets, they are not going to issue the visa for your convenience. Quiter frankly, at the Ghana consulate, they do not care. You can tell them you are having a baby next week and they won't blink.

Remember, these forms are also used for other nonimmigrant visa (student, tourist, business). It may be important to know when a person has to be back at school, but as for the K1 visa, they take their time because of that special provision of intent to immigrate.

I will urge you to read the recent reviews and expereinces that people have posted here about going through Ghana. None of them have had an approval. Each of them has been put in administrative processing for one reason or another. I would be cautious and not buy the ticket until your SO has that visa in hand. Don't even go by the "Come back Friday and pick it up" line. Wait until he is holding it. With this consulate, lately, anything can happen.

I always tell everyone to take all the forms that are listed on www.travel.state.gov to the interview. I know that your SO will get a packet with the forms in them, but I do not trust that the CO will not ask for a form that is not in the packet. As I have advised others, take all of them and just give them what they ask for. If, for some reason, you do not have the form they ask for, they WILL reschedule your interview for a later date, and in Ghana that can be a couple of months. I would rather spend the time filling out a few extra pages (basically with the same information) than have my interview postponed.
