Hi,

We are just now looking into the process if K1 and I have concerns on my I-134. I am a single mom of 3 beautiful children but do one childs disability for the past several years I have been living on SSI/child support out of need. Now my youngest child is now disabled and it looks like he will be on SSI. But the children are now older and am able to go on to school and once certified teach ESL classes and already have a teaching position lined up in the fall.

So what can I do when my finances have been minimal and below the standards. Because of the money I also discontinued use of banks a few years back because at the time I was getting dinged for anything. I have utility bills, rental aggreements to prove stability in terms of housing etc... But should I open an account? I can also supply letters from professionals explaining the necessity of being with my children in their younger ages. So I certainly don't expect my financial situation to be this way permenantly or long term and again will be returning back to work part-time in the fall as well as back to finish my degree. This is a MAJOR concern of possible denial.

So any one in similar financial position willing to share their experience or advice in general would be appreciated. I can get a co sponsor from my family easily if that would help. I hope I am not reinventing the wheel here. Thanks, Tam

You will need to show income in excess of the guidelines for yourself, your children and fiance. SSDI does count as income if you have the documentation but may not be enough. You may have to line up a co-sponsor. Past payments of bills, leases etc. are not generally considered. The consulate must determine your fiance will not become a public charge. They can decide what they need for this, but it sounds like you need a co-sponsor

Yes, the financial issues are all about whether the intending immigrant may become a public charge. Yours sounds like a case needing additional sponsorship.

Hi Gary&Alla and Elmcitymaven,

Thanks for the advice and have a family member that do the co-sponoring part. I was just wondering if I need to show them more info. So I feel better about moving forward with everything. Hope all goes well with you both.
