We are gonna try to get my fiancees mother here to attend our wedding, had anyone attemped this before? We are thinking we should apply for the b2 Tourist Visa for her mother, is her to attend her first daughters wedding a good enough reason for approval? Ha.. ill take any advice or suggestions in the situation, so shoot...

Might work - you won't know till you try...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Whats the approval on tourist visas btw? Are they denied most of the time, or fairly easy to get?

Hmm.. I read it only takes 1-2 weeks from application to approval/denial there in philippines for it?

alot of requirements................

Visitor Visas

Tourist Visa (B2)

Business Visa (B1)

Transit Visa (C1)

Student Visa (F1)

1. Tourist Visa (B2)

US Embassy officers automatically assume every tourist visa applicant intends to stay in the US permanently and therefore applicants must prove the following:

Strong business, social and/or family connections to their home country;

Legitimate travel purpose; and

Financial ability to pay for travel expenses.

Generally, the most important factors in judging an applicant's chances of approval are as follows:

Long term job or well documented successful business; and

Documented consistent high level of income.

However, US Embassy officers examine each applicant’s case individually with the main focus on the background of the individual applicant. Application form answers, supporting documentation and performance during the interview are all also important factors in the visa being approved.

US Embassy officers have very broad discretion to accept or reject an applicant’s case for a variety of reasons. Generally, B2 visas have the lowest approval rates because of the short time period required to apply.

Specifically, B2 tourist visas for students, wives, husbands, fiancés, fiancées, girlfriends and boyfriends are difficult to get approved due to loopholes in US immigration laws allowing persons to stay permanently in the US after arrival if they marry a US citizen.

It is highly recommended that applicants do not make any large transactions in or out of their bank account prior to the interview at the US Embassy. The US Embassy officers will focus on long term and consistent financial transaction history of the applicant’s bank account and not on large recent financial transactions. Generally, the balance amount of the applicant’s bank statement should be enough to cover their travel expenses for the duration of the visit to the US unless such expenses are being paid by a sponsor.

Applicants with a strong command of the English language normally have higher rates of approval because of the necessity to speak English while in the US.

Our service includes the following:

Provide free initial opinion of applicant’s chances for approval;

Schedule interview with US Embassy;

Provide list of supporting documents in English tailored to your case;

Prepare necessary supporting documents;

Consult in regards to answers to questions on application documents;

Prepare application forms signed by lawyer;

Telephone or video conference to discuss supporting documents and answers in regards to potential US Embassy officer interview questions; and

Assistance preparing a 2nd visa application if the 1st visa application is not approved.

B2 visa applications normally take 1 - 3 weeks to process depending on the caseload of the US Embassy in the country of residence.

2. Business Visa (B1)

The requirements, service and timeframe for a B1 business visa is similar to that of a tourist visa except you must prove a legitimate business travel purpose.

3. Transit Visa (C1)

The requirements, service and timeframe for a C1 transit visa are similar to that of a tourist / business visa except you must also prove flight reservations to a foreign country and a valid visa for that foreign country.

4. Student Visa (F1)

Applicants must first apply to a qualified school in the US and get accepted. The school will send the “Form I-20” after the applicant is accepted. Form I-20 is a confirmation form for foreign students, which includes a summary of estimated costs per year for attending the school.

Applicants can apply for a F1 visa after receiving the Form I-20 from their school and paying the US $100 SEVIS fee.

Applicants must prove they or their sponsors have enough funds to cover their education / living expenses in the US and a strong intent to return to their home country.

Normally, the sponsor of a F1 visa should be an immediate family member such as parents, brother / sister or other family members. Applicant’s cases will be scrutinized more closely by US Embassy officers if their sponsor is not a family member due to the high number of applicants attempting to commit student visa fraud.

Our service includes the following:

Provide free initial opinion of applicant’s chances for approval;

Schedule interview with US Embassy;

Provide list of supporting documents in English tailored to your case;

Prepare necessary supporting documents;

Consult in regards to answers to questions on application documents;

Prepare application forms signed by lawyer;

Telephone or video conference to discuss supporting documents and answers in regards to potential US Embassy officer interview questions; and

Assistance preparing a 2nd visa application if the 1st visa application is not approved.

F1 visa applications normally take 1 - 3 weeks to process if the applicant has already received Form I-20 from their school depending on the caseload of the US Embassy in the country of residence.

The B2 Visa can be difficult to get, usually they are making sure that you have enough links to your home country to know that you will return. Some of the things you have to show with that are how much money you have in your bank account and what kind of job you hold. If the mother is going to request a B2 visa to go to her daughter's wedding that's probably going to give her a better chance at getting it compared to someone just saying they would like to see the Estados Unidos.

Very difficult from the Philippines but if she's leaving other children and a husband behind, there might be a shot.

Every case is different, some people due to their job, education, social and family background get tourist visas regardless of coming from a country where the rate of B-2 denials is high. IMO, its worth to give it a try! After all, it is very important to have your fiance's mom coming for the wedding! If you have $131 to risk, go ahead!

My parents, my sibligns and my cousin came for my wedding in the U.S., my parents and sister just needed their visas renewed (as they had tourist visas for quite a while), but my youngest brother and cousin had never had a visa before and they were all approved. For their interview they just showed the wedding invitation, brought a copy of my K-1 BUT they also had to prove that they had enough financial means to afford their travel expenses and enough reasons to go back home. I'm sure that if I would have come here asking if a complete "guatemalan family" had any chances to get tourist visas to come to my wedding many VJers would have said NO, but as I said EVERY case is different, despite the country where you come from! ;)
