Name Issue

Question for all of you in the know —

My fiancee changed her Chinese name to a western style spelling to spell her name out Sue as opposed to Su Min. The Western version is in everything from phone records to newspaper articles, etc. However, it's not been used for anything "legal" -- she still signs her name Su, and that's how it's spelled out in her passport and ID cards.

After having compiled all the information for proof of relationship and information in general, I'm having a slight "freak out" that I may need to flesh this out a little.

Do I need to list this on the "Previous Names Used" in the I-129F form and add a page to the package explaining this?

if passport and ID is still the original name then you don't need to write anything in the Box for Previous Names used. just fill out form with Original name...

If she has used Sue in phone records and everything else like you say then it would be wise to list it in the other names used area so you don't run into problems trying to explain to someone your Sue is also Su.

Its always best to cover all bases early and not wait until someone asks later.

Well, Skype Phone logs for the last 8 months. Her email address is Sue as well, which have a lot of emails. And the article I wrote about her when we were students at University, her name was westernized too.

Those are hardly 'official' usages. If *she* has used it for anything official (such as her name on a physical phone bill or bank account, etc) I would think you should note it, but, IMHO, email & skype 'handles' and, even less, an article *you* wrote wouldn't be anything noteworthy.

For the same reason, I didn't and wouldn't list "iLoveAPolishGirl" or any other internet handle I've used in the past.

Yeah, she's never used it for anything legal. The Westernized version has proven advantageous at work where she teaches Montessori and expats pay top dollars for "foreign teachers."

She's actually Singaporean.

I'll include a brief note in the package and otherwise continue as is.
