Sorry to piggy back on someone elses question....

But when do you all suggest is the best time to apply for SSN?

Do you wait 2 weeks so the POE has entered you into the system?

I plan on applying right when I get there....marry a few weeks later....and change my name when I go back to get the restrictions removed.

I printed all the stuff off the VJ guides.

What's the soonest people have rec'd one? And how long can it potentially take?

Thanks, I just figured since SSN experiences were being exchanged on here...I would ask!

Best to apply for SSn as soon as you can.You can apply two weeks upon entry to US.I got mine a week after my wedding.

yeah, if not i would be waiting a long long time for my ssn which i dont need for the filing... lol.. thanks guys!

Don't be worried if you can't file your SSN on your married name. Since you came on a K1 Visa, chances are, your SSN will be on your maiden name. BUT, you could always have it changed once you have your GC or EAD. Good Luck! :)
