Are you a cricket fan then, Maven? That's unusual for British women, let alone American women!!!

I am a cricket fan, yes. It started when I was still with my ex, who was a massive Middlesex fan and listened to Test Match Special all the time on longwave. I got used to having it on, and found listening to TMS put me into a really relaxed zen state! Then I started watching it on telly, and eventually I saw a 20/20 match in 2007, right before I left. Last time I was able to watch the Ashes was 2005, back when I met my (current, final) husband, who is also into cricket. If he knows he can watch it live (or live-ish) he'd be pretty happy too.

I am a big sports fan and also a cricket fan though it took me a few years in the UK to get into it. Wound up being a huge advantage for me at my current job, being the only American who understands cricket!

Ummmmmmmmmm, you're American!!????? Oh my, I'm getting lots wrong today!!!!!!

the football world cup will be on ABC/ESPN. But I gotta warn.....the american announcers they get for the world cup are truly awful.

This is true. That said, they had Sky's Andy Gray on ESPN for the Euros last summer, and they said he would be back for the World Cup. Its funny how often he has to correct his American co-commentator.

That's funny julez. I'll most likely need to get Setanta for next season, if Newcastle go down, as that's the only channel that shows the championship games. Though Newcastle will switch places again with Wolves end of next season when we get promoted back to the premiership, and they go back to the championship.

FSC is useless. The guys on the Fox Soccer Report call the goal posts... pipes!! :bonk:

The Fox football phone in. Yeah that's still on, not sure how. Every other caller is usually wasted, its good for a laugh if nothing else. To think I used to knock Sky Sports. I miss it now!

I can report that one of those plonkers drinks in the local "british pub" near where I live.....holding court with all the British expats.

The American commenters for the World cup in addition to all the graphics and usage of the term "PKs" is enough to make you watch it Univision. They did have Andy Grey on some of the games for the 2006 world cup, but not all of them and not the england matches

Seriously, that's my idea of hell on Earth: a Brit bar full of drunken expats, invariably cockney or Northern. :dead:

Yeah, we ended up watching some of the games on the Spanish-language channels too (rusty Spanish skills notwithstanding!). It was a tough call, though, cuz we'd just bought an HD TV--so it was a trade-off.

PK I can handle--it's a little annoying, but at least it's a logical abbreviation. But Dave O'Brien clearly didn't have the rules quite figured out and kept using terms from other sports (mostly U.S. football & basketball) to describe the action. Ak.

Yeah, the Fone-in show is terrible. "Oh, it's these c*nts," the husband will say. I think Steven Cohen's put on a bit of weight.

My fave of the Canuck FSC hosts is Mitch Peacock. I'm not sure if he's on anymore. I keep hoping Jeremy St. Louis will have a snowboarding accident and have to retire. Of course, the relatively new guy is a real doofus. Setanta has come not a moment too soon.

Man, I'm cranky. Good thing I'm in the right forum!

Yeah I have read that. Its kind of sad really as we do need some compettion to Sky Sports in the UK. I have heard a rumour about ESPN taking over Setanta and also ESPN trying to take the Prem league off FSC.
