DS-230 Part 1 and Visa Waiver Program in France

Hello all,

We are filling out the DS-230 Part 1 to submit to the consulate in Paris, France.

Under section 25, we have to list all US visits and visa types. It's sort of complicated for my fiance because of multiple trips and some with specific visas and others without (part of visa waiver program).

For his first visit in 1987, my fiance had to request a specific "tourist visa". We're trying to determine if on a later the visit in 1992, the 'tourist visa' was still in effect, or if the Visa Waiver Program had started for France. The tourist visa does not appear to have a limit on duration so we're not sure which 'visa' he was technically travelling under.

Does anyone know from what date France was part of the visa waiver program?

as for type of visa/entry type put "tourist"... an entry under a B1/2 or VWP is still for "tourist" purposes.... I would not get hung up on this detail

I'm pretty sure France was in the VWPP - 1986.

But like Payxibka said "don't get hung up on it"

Yes, don't worry about that. Just put "Tourist" I did that, too, ones I applied for a different visa and I didn't know that time that it is called waiver.
