intonation is the keyword here,

I call ze wife gringuita, and calling your significant other in spanish gordo o gorda is a term of endearment as far as Mexico goes,

Stupid, well...if I say to somebody i know "don't be stupid" but they are my friends and they know is not because of meanness but just an exclamation I say it's ok,

intonation is vital...

Te quiero muncho retihartoooooo chaparro prietito gordisssss :luv:

Although when the terms of endearment do not come from the significant other, they can be taken as offensive and out of touch <_<

#######?!?!?!? I was being nice  .... I shall now go back to calling you cabronsete. So there:P

I am also a latina and calling someone "stupid" is very offensive and disrespectful no matter how is it said or used!

Whatever happened with calling your SO by their real names or better yet honey, sweetheart or darling?

I would be upfront with her and let her know I don't care for these offensive name calling before it goes anywhere beyond that.

It all depends on context, who said it, to who it was said, and what's their relationship.

Amongst friends in Brasil even saying "filho da puta" (son of a b...) might not be offensive.

Javi and I often call each other gordita/gordito, pendeja/pendejo, etc. Shoot, we even call each other cabrona/cabron. It's all in the way we say it. Neither of us gets offended because we use them as terms of endearment really.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

Have him try walking barefoot on broken glass and see if it really compares....

It's simlar to when people say "This tastes like ######...." erm.... so you know what ###### tastes like????
