Alaska school punishes students for taunting moose

PALMER, Alaska – Eighth-graders at an Alaska school have been disciplined for taunting and frightening a moose so severely it suffered a fatal injury.

School district spokeswoman Catherine Esary says the physical education class at Colony Middle School in Palmer was let outside Monday before teachers realized a moose was on the grounds.

A teacher witnessed the taunts. Esary wouldn't say what the students did.

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says the moose's panic prompted the animal to throw itself into a wall repeatedly, which caused its death.

Esary cited privacy concerns in not saying how many students were involved or how they were punished.

but mighty tasty if prepared right....

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Not to mention dangerous.. those kids really could have been hurt. I've angered a bull once by taking a picture with a flash.. he started to charge the car.. not a very smart move by me.. and not a very smart move by the kids.

Thats disgusting and sad.

Moose are beautiful creatures.

I hate it when I see kids taunting ducks and geese at the park.

Are you comparing taunting ducks ans geese to taunting a moose? A moose can do some serious damage and if the moose felt threatened it would have done something about it. Taunting a duck? It's like taking candy from a baby.

Yes I am comparing it because they're all animals. Taunting animals in general isn't right, regardless of what kind of animal it is.

1) Your antlers are crooked!

2) Your related to a Candian

3) You sh!t in the woods!

4) Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!
