Leaving USA before greencard

Hi,

I'm getting a little ahead of myself here as my interview for K1 isn't until May 01st however I just have a question about the AOS. We are getting married on July 24th in St Thomas USVI and plan to go back to my fiance's home in Pennsylvania to file for AOS around the 1st in August, before having the honeymoon, during the time from filing to receiving everything am I able to leave the US? I know there are no set timelines but is there an average and are there any main reasons why this process would take a long time (other than no-one picking it up off a desk)

I would be grateful if someone can clarify this.

Thanks in advance.

K-1 visa is one time entry visa, you are not able to re-entry US with it once u're here. Best way to do is apply for a travel document - Advance Parole (AP) when you start your AOS process. It's free if you apply it with your AOS packet (USD1,010). It allows you to travel outside of the country when your AOS is pending. Usually the waiting period is about 60-90 days. You can file for infopass appointment to check the status if its over 90 days.

Wish you best of luck with your coming interview in advance.

Cheers,

Glo
